Team Origin, presente anche alle Louis Vuitton Pacific Series

[singlepic=639,170,250,,left]Louis Vuitton Pacific Series – Londra – Team Origin ha confermato questo pomeriggio che prenderà parte ai prossimi due eventi che si svolgeranno a bordo degli ACC Versione 5. Il primo di questi sarà la seconda regata annuale del Club Nautico Espanol de Vela, in programma a Valencia tra il 7 e il 9 novembre; il secondo, invece, saranno le Louis Vuitton Pacific Series, il cui svolgimento è previsto ad Auckland tra gennaio e febbraio 2009.
“Facendo seguito alle notizie ricevute in mattinata, che potrebbero spingere Alinghi a prendere parte alle Louis Vuitton Pacific Series – si legge nel comunicato del team inglese – Team Origin conferma di essere uno dei due team iscritti alla manifestazione che aveva chiesto di restare anonimo”
Sir Keith Mills, capo del sindacato, ha commentato: “E’ una gran notizia per Team Origin. Dopo un periodo lungo e frustrante finalmente siamo pronti per regatare! Desafio Espanol ci ha gentilmente offerto ESP-88, permettendoci così di lasciare GBR-75 nel Regno Unito. La regata annuale del CNEV rappresenta per noi un occasione da non perdere per confrontarci contro top team come Alinghi e Desafio Espanol, senza contare che potrebbe essercene un quarto”.
Entusiasta dell’annuncio Mike Sanderson, direttore tecnico del team: “Ci sono state molte conversazioni positive nel corso delle ultime settimane in merito al futuro della Coppa e possiamo finalmente annunciare che siamo pronti a regatare. Nonostante il preavviso minimo, la regata del CNEV ci vedrà tra i protagonisti perchè abbiamo sempre tenuto il team unito e pronto per regatare in qualsiasi momento”.
“La prossima settimana a Valencia avremo modo di regatare contro alcuni tra i migliori team di Coppa – ha aggiunto Ben Ainslie, skipper e timoniere della barca inglese – Sarà per noi l’occasione di raffinare la preparazione anche se sappiamo che sarà molto dura duellare con campioni come Ed Baird e Paul Cayard”.
L’equipaggio inglese raggiungerà Valencia il 5 novembre, in modo da prendere parte alla regata di prova in programma il 6. Le regata valide ai fini del Trofeo Desafio Espanol avranno inizio il 7 novembre e si concluderanno il 9 con le finali a match race.

Team Origin to compete for first time ever aboard aboard ACC Version 5
[singlepic=638,170,250,,left][Team Origin Press Release] Team Origin, the British America’s Cup team, confirmed today that it will enter two forthcoming America’s Cup version 5 regattas. The first of these will be the Club Náutico Español de Vela 2nd annual regatta that is taking place in Valencia, Spain, next week (7-9th November) and the second event being the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series to be held in Auckland, New Zealand, in Jan/Feb 2009.
Following the positive news received this morning where Alinghi announced that it would compete in the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series early next year, Team Origin confirmed that it is indeed one of the two as yet unnamed teams that have already entered this event and is committed to being on the startline.
The Louis Vuitton Pacific Series, which will be contested by both former and potential America’s Cup teams will be staged by Emirates Team New Zealand, the America’s Cup finalists who lost out to Alinghi last year.
Sir Keith Mills, Team Principal of Team Origin, stated: “This is indeed great news for Team Origin. After considerable delays and frustrations we finally get to go racing! Desafio Espanol have kindly offered to lend us one of their AC V5 boats, ESP-88, instead of having to transport our own GBR-75 from the UK, and so the CNEV regatta provides us with an ideal opportunity to get our team back together and get out on the water against some top teams, including Alinghi and Desafio Espanol with possibly a fourth team to be added.”
Team Origin will travel to Valencia early next week and start sailing on ESP-88 on Wed 5th November. The CNEV regatta format includes a practice race on Thurs 6th, then fleet racing on Fri 7th and Sat 8th Nov and finally match racing on Sun 9th November. The team will then have a few months to prepare for the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series in Auckland which starts on Jan 31st 2009.
Mike Sanderson, Team Director of Team Origin, commented: “There have been many positive conversations going on over the last few weeks regarding the future of the America’s Cup event and so it is great news that we can finally announce today that we get to go racing! The CNEV regatta has come about with very short notice but we have always kept our team together and so it means we are ready to go racing at any time. I am certainly looking forward to next week’s sailing and also to the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series early next year. It seems like it has been a long time coming!”
Ben Ainslie, skipper and helmsman of Team Origin added: “Next week’s regatta in Valencia gives us a prime opportunity to get our team together and go racing against some top teams. It will certainly sharpen us up and probably throw us in at the deep end, competing against prolific names such as Ed Baird steering for Alinghi and Paul Cayard for Desafio Espanol. I am raring to go, as are all of the Team Origin sailing team!”
