Ginevra: undici sfidanti al meeting con Alinghi

[singlepic=650,250,170,,left]America’s Cup – Ginevra – Undici challenger iscritti alla 33a America’s Cup e il defender Alinghi, si sono incontrati oggi presso la sede della Société Nautique de Genève, per il primo dei tanti Competitor Meeting, nel corso dei quali si discuterà del ritorno dell’evento sull’acqua il più presto possibile. La riunione è stata organizzata da AC Management, la società che gestisce l’evento per conto del defender, e presieduta dallo skipper di Alinghi, Brad Butterworth.
Questo primo incontro comune, fa seguito a una serie di colloqui individuali tra Alinghi e i challenger. Il primo argomento in agenda è quello della necessità di trovare un modello finanziario sostenibile che comprenda misure sul contenimento dei costi, come una campagna con una sola barca e la creazione di una nuova classe di imbarcazioni che siano più veloci e più spettacolari della Versione 5.0 utilizzata per la 32a America’s Cup, ma, nello stesso tempo, meno costose rispetto agli AC90 inizialmente pensati per la 33a America’s Cup.
La nuova classe consentirà una partecipazione più sostenibile per tutti i team già esistenti, compresi quelli che si sono iscritti più recentemente, e offrirà un motivo in più a potenziali nuovi sfidanti per iscriversi alla 33a America’s Cup, prevista per il 2010.
Al termine della riunione, gli undici challenger presenti e il defender hanno indirizzato a BMW Oracle Racing e al Golden Gate Yacht Club una lettera comune, chiedendo loro di ritirare la causa legale e di unirsi al gruppo per partecipare ad un’azione di revisione, costruttiva e imparziale dei documenti esistenti e del programma, che consenta all’America’s Cup di ritornare in acqua il più presto possibile.

Eleven challengers attend meeting called by Alinghi and ask BMW Oracle to drop its law suit and join the process
[singlepic=649,250,170,,left][Alinghi Press Release] Eleven challengers entered in the 33rd America’s Cup and the defender, Alinghi, met today at the Société Nautique de Genève, for the first of several Competitor Meetings to discuss returning the competition to the water as soon as possible. The meeting was called for by the defender’s event organising entity AC Management and chaired by Alinghi skipper Brad Butterworth.
This initial get together follows a series of individual discussions between Alinghi and the challengers. At the top of the agenda was the need for a financially sustainable model that includes cost-containment measures, such as a one-boat campaign and the creation of a new class of race yacht; faster and more spectacular than the Version 5.0 used for the 32nd America’s Cup, but cheaper than the AC90 originally intended for the 33rd edition.
The new class will mean affordable participation for all existing teams, including the most recent entries, and will provide motivation for potential new challengers to join the 33rd America’s Cup, expected to take place in 2010.
At the end of the meeting, the eleven challengers present and the defender signed a joint request addressed to BMW Oracle Racing and the Golden Gate Yacht Club asking them to withdraw their law suit and join the fair and constructive process of reviewing the applicable documents and schedule that will allow the America’s Cup to return to the water as soon as possible.
