VOLVO OCEAN RACE, THE REGATTA WILL BE PLATINUM PARTNER
[Volvo Ocean Race Press Release] The Volvo Ocean Race will be a Platinum Partner of the 2010 World Yacht Racing Forum 2010, which will take place on the 14 and 15 December, in Estoril, Portugal. Volvo Ocean Race CEO, Knut Frostad and Director of Television, Adam Binns will be participating in panel sessions on the first day.
Volvo Ocean Race has supported the forum since the first edition in 2008 and members of the Volvo Ocean Race management and operations team will be attending.
Frostad believes this forum is important for the evolution of the sport on a global platform. “The yachting industry needs more platforms to promote and share the growing sailing initiatives around the world. It is also important for us all to learn from each other and from other sports so we can increase the interest in sailing in general. This forum helps this process immensely and is a fantastic place to network.”
On the first day of this international event, Knut Frostad will be representing the Volvo Ocean Race in the panel of discussion on ‘What is the future for sailing’s premier events’. The main topics covered will be the commercial challenges that events face, the upcoming four years, the return on sponsorship investment and the professional future of sailing.
Binns will be representing the race later on the same day in the panel of discussion on ‘Cost effective strategies to grow new audiences via TV and new media,’ where he will be discussing TV air time, cost effective media channels, the influences of social networking in the marketing of events and the way sailing can be more attractive in terms of television presentation.
The World Yacht Racing Forum is an event which gathers individuals from the sailing world, companies and organisations involved in the yachting industry, professional sailors, yachting federations and clubs, different marketing and television companies and cities hosting sailing events. They will all meet to discuss the different initiatives and plans within the sailing industry.
“The commercial world of yacht racing has developed significantly over the last few years,” said Event Director, James Pleasance. “Today’s new media and television technology has also helped the sport find new audiences and that has brought with it new international sponsors and venues to the sport.
“The forum is an ideal opportunity for these sponsors and venues to learn more about the benefits of investing in the sport. The Volvo Ocean Race is the best known global ocean race and we are delighted to have its support at the World Yacht Racing Forum and to share many of its initiatives in growing the sport.”
