Volvo Ocean Race, Magnus Olsson confermato skipper di Ericsson 3

[singlepic=1652,250,170,,left]Volvo Ocean Race – Taiwan – L’Ericsson Racing Team ha annunciato quest’oggi che Magnus Olsson sarà skipper di Ericsson 3 anche per la quinta tappa della Volvo Ocean Race. L’esperto velista scandinavo guiderà l’equipaggio lungo le 12500 miglia che uniscono Qingdao a Rio de Janeiro.

Anders Lewander, skipper dell’unità sino a Singapore, dove era sbarcato per riprendersi da un’operazione al menisco, pur essendosi completamente ristabilito dall’intervento, resterà a terra.

“Il ruolo dello skipper è uno dei più duri in questo tipo di regate e richiede grande predisposizione alla leadership. Chiunque si appresta a ricoprire tale incarico, sa a cosa va incontro. Visto quanto passato da Ericsson 3 e quanto ancora deve venire, abbiamo decisio di cambiare le dinamiche a bordo chiedendo a Magnus Olsson di restare skipper” ha spiegato il capo del team svedese, Richard Brisius.

“E’ una situazione spiacevole, ma sono immensamente orgoglioso di quanto ha fatto l’equipaggio – ha commentato Magnus Olsson, attualmente a Taiwan dove sta seguendo i lavori di riparazione della barca – Mi sento investito di un grande carico di responsabilità, ma anche di grande fiducia da parte dell’Ericsson Racing Team“.

[Volvo Ocean Race Press Release] Ericsson Racing Team today announced that Magnus Olsson will remain skipper of Ericsson 3 for Leg 5 to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Anders Lewander, who skippered the Nordic-crewed yacht for the first three legs of the Volvo Ocean Race, will step down.

Lewander was unable to sail aboard Ericsson 3 during Leg 4 due to a knee injury, but has since made a good recovery.

“Being a skipper in this race is a tough job and one that requires highly tuned leadership, and any skipper takes on the job in the full knowledge of the challenge that it poses. Given the tough times ahead for Ericsson 3, we have made the decision to change the dynamic onboard the boat and asked Magnus Olsson to remain as skipper,” said Richard Brisius, the managing director of Ericsson Racing Team.

“In a way this is a bittersweet situation, but I am immensely proud of what we have achieved to date as a team,” said Olsson, who is currently in Taiwan, where the boat is undergoing repairs. “I feel humbled by the responsibility and trust that the crew and the rest of Ericsson Racing Team have placed on me. We are now under real pressure to perform.”
