Vendée Globe, è il turno di Josse

[singlepic=1018,250,170,,left]Vendée Globe – Oceano Indiano – Ennesimo cambio di leadership alla Vendée Globe. Dopo aver lasciato i solitari guidati da Peyron, li ritroviamo, ventiquattro ore dopo, inseguire Sebastien Josse. Lo skipper di BT si è trovato al posto giusto nel momento giusto e ha sfruttato nel migliore del modi la rotazione verso nordest del vento per arrestare la sua discesa e stabilizzare la prua attorno ai 45° di latitudine sud.
Leggermente più a sud dei diretti avversari, Josse tenterà di difendere la prima posizione navigando sottovento alla flotta sino al secondo cancello obbligatorio, superato il quale le prue punteranno sudest, alla volta delle Kerguelen. Una lunga e gelida planata spinti dai Quaranta Ruggenti verso l’Australia.
A tenere testa allo skipper di BT, Jean Pierre Dick (Paprec Virbac 2), l’unico più a sud di Josse. Terza posizione per Eliés Yann; lo skipper di Generali, al comando della regata due giorni fa, è tra coloro che hanno preferito stare a nord.
Tra gli inseguitori, Vincent Riou (PRB), attestato in ottava posizione, è una decina di miglia più avanti rispetto allo stesso rilevamento del 2001, anno in cui vinse. Sempre in fatto di statistiche, Michel Desjoyeaux ha fatto segnare una VMG media da record, nel corso delle ultime ventiquattro ore: 16.6 nodi. Ottimi spunti anche per Derek Hartfield, capace di coprire 384 miglia in un giorno, e per Bernard Stamm. Cheminées Poujoulat, protagonista fino ad ora mancato, è sempre tra i più veloci e si avvicina al gruppo di testa, anche se l’impresa appare davvero difficile.

JOSSE LEADS IS 30 MILES
[Vendée Globe Press Release] Seb Josse has seen his lead consolidated at 33.8 miles as Jean-Pierre Dick (Paprec-Virbac 2) ascends from the south to lie in second place, the position he held just before he crossed tracks with Seb two and a half days ago about half way along the ice gate. Yann Eliès is computed to be less than a mile behind in third. Elies is tracking 109 miles to the north of Dick who is quickest of the top three at the moment.
Michel Desjoyeaux meantime has opted to take a bite to the north east for the last 40 miles or so, lying in ninth place. His next target, ironically, is now Vincent Riou (PRB) who has slipped to eighth as Golding (Ecover 3) rises to seventh from the south, crossing the trail of Josse about 30 miles astern of the leader.
2004 winner Riou is 10.5 miles ahead of the 2001 victory. Desjoyeuax records the best VMG of the fleet at 16.6 knots over the last 24 hours, while Derek Hatfield will be a more contented skipper knowing that he has posted his best speed and day’s run on Algimouss Spirit of Canada to 09.30 GMT this morning, 384 miles, second only to Bernard ‘the Bullet’ Stamm.
The hunting pack remain pretty static on mileage to the leaders. Sam Davies (Roxy) has had virtually the same distance to the leaders for the last 24 hours – give or take a mile – although Dominique Wavre, SUI (Temenos 2) has gained 26 miles over that period.
And the good news for the thirsty Johnny Malbon is that he has managed to get his water-maker working on the Artemis II.
