Vendée Globe, avanti a passo ridotto

[singlepic=1225,250,170,,left]Vendée Globe – Oceano Pacifico – Mentre Sebastien Josse si dirige a nord su un BT a pezzi o quasi, i solitari continuano la loro battaglia, nonostante le condizioni incontrate siano state le peggiori di tutta questa incredibile Vendée Globe. In testa, Foncia ha allungato su Veolia Environnement, anche se il distacco è sempre inferiore alle cinquanta miglia. I due scafi si dirigono verso nord est, dove attraverseranno l’Ice Gate. Viste le condizioni meteo sia Michel Desjoyeaux che Roland Jourdain, spossati da lunghe giornate senza riposo, sanno di dover stringere i denti: una minima distrazione potrebbe costare svariate miglia.
Davvero un buon Natale per Jean Le Cam (VM Materiaux) che ha recuperato sulla coppia di testa parecchio terreno ed è ora terzo a poco più di cento miglia da Foncia. Più indietro, in settima posizione, Paprec Virbac 2 è finito nella coda della perturbazione e ha rallentato decisamente il passo, al pari di Dee Caffari (Aviva) e Brian Thompson (Baharain Team Pindar).

VENDEE GLOBE, PICKING UP THE PIECES
[Vendée Globe Press Release] After the Boxing Day knockdown, a difficult and deeply disappointing period ahead for Seb Josse as he learns to what extent BT is damaged, a cruel situation for an inspirational skipper who has worked so hard, given so much and had sailed such a prudent but clever race. He has taken as few risks as possible and yet shown the consistent capacity to drive BT fast on demand in all conditions.
Meantime like a couple of pinch drunk prize-fighters, given the conditions, Michel Desjoyeaux and Roland Jourdain continue their Pacific duel. Desjoyeaux has earned another small gain, extending to 40 miles again, quicker than Bilou over the last hour – just – and between 15.00 and 18.30 GMT. To the western point of the next security gate they are 350 miles (Foncia) and 354 miles (Veolia Environnement) while Jean Le Cam is still very much on the prowl just 126 miles behind.
Jean-Pierre Dick (Paprec-Virbac 2) has slowed to less than 10 knots again in seventh place. So this evening have Dee Caffari (Aviva) and Brian Thompson (Bahrain Team Pindar), Thompson making just 5.8 knots between 17.30-18.30 GMT tonight.
Raphael Dinelli has had to give up 17th place to Norbert Sedlacek as the French skipper heads NE.
