Las Palmas – Vamos Carlos Manera! You have done it! After a staggering 1,300 miles, facing fierce cold fronts, battling 35kn gusts and 3.5m waves, leading the pack and strategically navigating the Atlantic’s challenging terrains, he clinched the win in the first stage of the Mini Transat regatta from Les Sables d’Olonne (France) to Las Palmas (Canary Islands)!
Aboard his Xucla, a prototype of just 6.50 metres, he solo sailed for 9 days 19 hours and 40 minutes.
Straight from Carlos’ own words: “It’s really powerful! I am really very happy! It was a first leg with light air. My boat was not designed for these kinds of conditions, but it is very versatile and it proved it. The big lesson of this first leg, as is often the case in ocean racing, is that until you have crossed the finish line, anything can happen. You must never give up but, on the contrary, hold on and always believe in your own possibilities until the end!”
