Atlantic Rally for Cruisers – St. Lucia – Sono di DreamCatcher KM i line honours dell’ARC 2008. Lo Swan 82 di Jarrod Cripps ha portato a termine la traversata da Las Palmas de Gran Canaria a St. Lucia in 13 giorni, 23 ore e 44 minuti, anticipando di 8 ore e 11 minuti il Southern Wind 80 Matelot, che solo tre giorni fa sembrava avere la vittoria in mano.
Resta quindi imbattuto il record stabilito da Capricorno nel 2006. Il maxi italiano, sfruttando venti più intensi di quelli incontrati da DreamCatcher KM, impiegò infatti 11 giorni 5 ore e 32 minuti per coprire le 2700 miglia del percorso.
Mentre i primi si godono la calda accoglienza della popolazione locale tranquillamente ormeggiati lungo le banchine del nuovissimo Marina di Rodney Bay, per gli altri duecento equipaggi la regata è ancora in corso di svolgimento e molti di essi sono attesi nel caribe dopo mercoledì. Prossimi all’arrivo sono l’Oyster 82 Sundowner, dato a poco meno di trenta miglia dal traguardo, e il VOR 60 Nova One, portato dallo skipper Christian Kargl.
Ricordiamo che oltre al primo assoluto, il regolamento dell’Atlantic Rally for Cruiser prevede che ad essere premiati siano i migliori di ogni classe in tempo compensato. Per avere la classifica definitiva bisognerà quindi attendere l’arrivo di tutti gli scafi ancora in gara.

ARC 2008, MATELOT LEADS WITH BIG ADVANTAGE
Atlantic Rally for Cruisers – Las Palmas de Gran Canaria – The Swan 82, DreamCatcher KM, skippered by Jarrod Cripps, has taken line honours for ARC 2008, crossing the Rodney Bay finish line at 08:44 local time. Both boat and the nine crew looked in great shape after their 2700 mile passage from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Louis Lewis, Director of Tourism in St Lucia was present to welcome the yacht into the new marina, along with a steel band, local television, and a crowd of St Lucians. And of course, there was the famous rum punch and basket of fruit presented to each ARC yacht by the people of St Lucia.
The elapsed time for Dreamcatcher is 13 days, 23 hours, and 44 minutes. The current ARC course record stands at 11 days, 5 hours and 32 minutes, set in 2006 by the Italian maxi, Capricorno. The difference in elapsed time reflects the lighter airs experienced by this year’s fleet. Indeed, a browse through the many logs the crews have been submitting to the website everyday illustrates some of the frustrations being felt, as well as the frequent change in sail plan whenever the wind picks up.
At the moment, over half the fleet still have more than 1000 miles to cover, and whilst arrivals over the next few days will still remain quite light, the numbers will pick up significantly from Wednesday onwards. Just in time to take advantage of the great social programme laid on especially for ARC participants.
