Geneva – The news was announced on 6 September in the presence of Russell Coutts and many guests: Switzerland SailGP Team, born in the wake of Team Tilt, will join the international league in May 2022 in Bermuda for the start of season 3.
After months of hard work and thanks to the unconditional support of our main sponsor, Lundin Energy, we have been able to sign a three-year participation agreement with SailGP, which will take us through to 2025 with the possibility of extending our participation in this extraordinary circuit beyond the fifth season.
SailGP is an annual championship where the world’s best sailors compete on the fastest boats: the F50 foiling catamarans. Each team represents its country with a strict nationality rule for the crew. This is the Formula 1 of sailing.
SailGP is the most professional circuit in the world of sailing. Its future is very promising with already 9 teams participating! We are very honoured to bring to life a Swiss team that will reassemble some of Switzerlands’ best sailors, competing against the rest of the world on identical high performance boats.
Our foiler is currently being built in New Zealand and we will receive it in Bermuda, a month ahead of the first event, which will give us the opportunity to train before the start of the season. In the meantime we will be working on physical training, doing simulator sessions and analysing as much data and video as possible in order to be competitive at the start of SailGP season 3.
