[singlepic=1394,250,170,,left]Multiscafi – Vannes – Correva lo scorso febbraio quando Groupama 3, il multiscafo con cui Franck Cammas stava tentando di stabilire il primato sul giro del mondo senza scalo in equipaggio, si ribaltò a poche ore dal suo ingresso in Oceano Pacifico. Recuperato grazie ad una straordinaria operazione di salvataggio posta in essere dalla Giardia Costiera neozelandese, il trimarano fece il suo ingresso negli stabilimenti della Multiplast di Vannes due mesi più tardi, per essere sottoposto a importanti lavori di ripristino.
Lo shore team di Franck Cammas ha comunicato oggi pomeriggio che gli interventi più importanti sono ormai da considerarsi completati e che la barca sarà pronta per il secondo varo tra non più di trenta giorni. Gli scafi sono stati ricondizionati, l’attrezzatura di coperta è già montata e i trampolini sono pienamente operativi. I tecnici si stanno dedicando al montaggio delle scasse delle derive e al settaggio dell’elettronica.
La Multiplast, studiando i dati raccolti nel corso delle varie uscite in mare, ne ha approfittato per rinforzare la struttura senza influire sul dislocamento complessivo dell’unità, ormai pronta ad affrontare una stagione 2009 ricca di sfide.
I tre tentativi in programma nel 2009
– in maggio, attraversata del Mediterraneo da Marsiglia a Cartagine (record di Orange con 17h56m sulle 458 miglia del percorso);
– periodo estivo, traversata del nord Atlantico (record di Groupama 3);
– dal 1 novembre Jules Verne Trophy (50d16h20m).
I quattro record detenuti da Groupama 3
– Cadice-San salvador (7d10h58m, alla media 21.7 nodi);
– Miami- New York (1d11h5m alla media 27 nodi);
– Distanza coperta nelle 24 ore (794 miglia alla media di 33.08 nodi);
– Traversata del nord Atlantico (4d3h57m alla media di 29.26 mn).

30 DAYS TO GO TO GROUPAMA 3 RELAUNCH
[singlepic=1393,250,170,,left][Groupama Press Release] Returning to the Multiplast yard last April after suffering damage in the Jules Verne Trophy, the maxi trimaran Groupama 3 is beginning her last month of repairs in Vannes, Brittany. Adorned with her two new floats, the quadruple record holder is gradually getting back in shape.
On the deck of the central hull, the fittings are back in place. Around the cockpit, the trampolines are being tensioned, as is the case between the floats and up forward. On the deck of the floats, the yard’s technicians are positioning the foil casings, laser sighting to ensure they are perfectly geometric. Down below, electronics engineers and electricians are working on installing the final instruments, which will enable the crew to be in performance mode for the three record attempts scheduled for 2009. Reinforced but without weight increase, Groupama 3 has thus been optimised as a result of observations made at sea and work carried out by the research department.
Just one month now remains to complete this vital land-based phase. Thirty days of intensive work then before the water can course beneath the three hulls of the maxi trimaran fitted out by Groupama once more; enabling her to set out to conquer new horizons.
The three 2009 attempts
– Mediterranean crossing Marseilles – Carthage in May (held by Orange who took 17hr 56 mn to cover 458 nm);
– North Atlantic crossing in July (held by Groupama 3);
– Jules Verne Trophy from 1st November (in 50 d 16h and 20 mn at an average of 17.89 knots).
The four records held by Groupama 3
– Cadiz – San Salvador in 7 d 10h and 58 mn at an average of 21.7 knots
– Miami – New York in 1 d 11 h and 5 mn at an average of 27 knots
– Distance covered in 24 hours, racking up 794 nm at an average of 33.08 knots
– North Atlantic crossing in 4 d 3h and 57 mn at an average of 29.26 knots
