Chellange Julius Baer, Alinghi nel 2011 regaterà sui Decision 35

Challenge Julius Baer – Ginevra – Prima le voci riguardanti il possibile ingresso nell’Extreme Sailing Series, poi la decisione di regatare nel circuito Challenge Julius Baer. Alinghi, seppur non interessato alla nuova America’s Cup disegnata da BMW Oracle Racing, continua a guardare con entusiasmo al mondo dei multiscafi.

Tra le altre cose quello il Julius Baer, riservato ai Decision 35, è un evento in grande crescita, che il prossimo anno impegnerà i suoi protagonisti tanto nelle acque interne quanto in Mediterraneo. Un’apertura che ha mosso l’interesse di molti specialisti dell’universo multiscafi. Si inizierà a maggio con quattro week end di regate sul Lago di Ginevra – incluse la Ginevra-Rolle-Ginevra e il Bol D’Or – per poi spostarsi nel sud della Francia per altre due frazioni da disputarsi in settembre.

Ogni tappa avrà una durata di tre giorni contro i due di quest’anno, come spiega Pierre-Yves Jorand, project manager del Decision 35 di Alinghi: “E’ stata una scelta dettata dalla necessità di ottimizzare i tempi”.

Novità anche dal punto di vista regolamentare, con l’introduzione dell’obbligo di pesare tutte le barche: “Anche questa è una novità interessante, perchè in passato i controlli di stazza si limitavano alla misurazione di qualche parte di attrezzatura. Ora invece sottoporremo ogni catamarano ad un check up approfondito”.

[Source Alinghi] The Decision 35 class attracts some of the greats of the multihull world and plans to export the fleet to the Mediterranean for 2011 have been met with enthusiasm. Next year’s season will start in May on Lake Geneva with four weekends of racing that will include the classic Genève-Rolle-Genève and the Bol d’Or, then the fleet will move to a venue in the South of France (yet to be named) for two events in September.

All regattas will include an additional day of racing taking the Grand Prix events from two to three days, “the idea being to maximise time on the water,” explained Pierre-Yves Jorand, Alinghi D35 project manager. And while the board change has been postponed, a new initiative is to be introduced: “Next year we will have an official weigh-in for the race boats,” said Pierre-Yves, “previously we have measured pieces of the boat, but we have never weighed the boat ‘ready to sail’, so this will be an improvement.”
