Challenge Julius Baer, Alinghi per la terza volta

[singlepic id=4049 w=300 h=204 float=left]Challenge Julius Baer – Lausanne-Ouchy – Il Décision 35 di Alinghi ha vinto il Challenge Julius Baer che si svolge ogni anno in Svizzera per il terzo anno consecutivo, laureandosi così nuovamente campione di multiscafi della stagione. Alinghi partecipa alle regate sui D35 sul lago di Ginevra sin dalla fondazione della classe nel 2004 e quest’anno il team si è misurato contro alcuni dei migliori specialisti mondiali di multiscafi, nel corso di una serie di eventi disputati durante l’estate, cui hanno partecipato 12 imbarcazioni. Della lista di illustri partecipanti fanno parte alcuni dei componenti del team di America’s Cup di Alinghi come Loïck Peyron e Alain Gautier, oltre ad altri campioni di multiscafi tra cui Michel Desjoyeaux, Franck Cammas, Pascal Bidégorry e Karine Fauconnier.

Alinghi, con il suo presidente Ernesto Bertarelli al timone, ha vinto due dei sette eventi e ha terminato al secondo posto in altri tre. La prestazione odierna a Lausanne-Ouchy ha garantito al team la vittoria in classifica generale e quindi del campionato, con lo stesso numero di punti di Okalys che ha chiuso al secondo posto e con soli due punti di vantaggio su Foncia di Alain Gautier.

“Sono davvero felice, specialmente perchè il livello quest’anno era veramente elevato e la battaglia per la vittoria finale è sempre stata molto combattuta dall’inizio alla fine. Per me chiudere davanti a Alain Gautier (timoniere di Foncia) e Loïck Peyron (timoniere di Okalys-Corum) è un onore, dal momento che è davvero difficile trovare qualcuno che sia più bravo di loro nel mondo dei multiscafi”. Ha dichiarato Ernesto Bertarelli, che ha poi aggiunto:
“Il risultato è merito del lavoro dell’equipaggio. Qualsiasi imbarcazione a vela deve essere gestita da un gruppo che svolge il proprio lavoro al meglio, noi siamo molto contenti di avere un equipaggio eccezionale in ogni posizione. Questa è dunque una vittoria di tutto il team”.

Alinghi ha terminato recentemente la fase delle prove in mare a Genova, in Italia, e continuerà ad allenarsi e a testare il suo maxi catamarano Alinghi 5 in vista della prima regata dell’America’s Cup, in calendario per l’8 Febbraio 2010 a Ras al-Khaimah, negli Emirati Arabi.
“Abbiamo molte cose da implementare su Alinghi 5 e ancora tanto da imparare. Dovremo trascorrere ancora molte ore in acqua ad allenarci” ha concluso Ernesto Bertarelli.

Il team riprenderà gli allenamenti negli Emirati Arabi alla metà di ottobre.

CHALLENGE JULIUS BAER, ALINGHI FOR THE THIRD TIME
Challenge Julius Baer – Lausanne-Ouchy – The Alinghi D35 team won the Switzerland-based Challenge Julius Baer multihull series for the third consecutive year. Alinghi has competed in every D35 championship on Lake Geneva since the 35ft one-design series began in 2004 and this year, as in recent events, the crew of six has been up against some of the most talented multihull sailors in the world throughout the summer-long 12-boat series. The illustrious roll call includes some of Alinghi’s own America’s Cup team members: Loïck Peyron and Alain Gautier, as well as Michel Desjoyeaux, Franck Cammas, Pascal Bidégorry and Karine Fauconnier among others.

Alinghi, helmed by team president Ernesto Bertarelli, won two of the events this year and ranked second in three. Saturday’s performance in Lausanne-Ouchy secured the championship victory for the America’s Cup Defender with Loïck Peyron’s Okalys in second place, just ahead of Alain Gautier on Foncia.

“I am very happy with the result, especially as the level this year has been really high and the fight for the championship has been tight from the start. To finish ahead of Alain Gautier [helmsman on Foncia] and Loïck Peyron [helmsman on Okalys-Corum] is an honour as a helmsman because it’s difficult to find someone as good as them in the world of multihulls,” said Ernesto Bertarelli. “Our result is entirely due to our crew. All sailing boats have to be sailed with everyone doing their job as best they can and we are particularly lucky to have very good people in every single position; it’s a comprehensive victory for all the crew,” he added.

Alinghi has recently completed its sea trials in Genoa, Italy, and will continue to train and test its giant catamaran towards the 33rd America’s Cup in Ras al-Khaimah scheduled to start on 8 February 2010. “Our full focus is on Alinghi 5, we have many things to implement and many things to learn from the boat so there are many hours to put in on the water,” concluded Ernesto Bertarelli.

The team will recommence training in mid-October in the UAE.
