Porto Venere – What a day in Porto Venere, where Sailing Series Melges 20 fleet completed three more races valid for Act 1 facing demanding conditions, with strong wind coming from 150°-170° along with rough sea characterized by waves high an average of two meters.
Richard Davies’ Section 16 (3-9-18), driven among the wind shifts by Chris Rast, defended the first day leadership with some good results but in race number five collected 18 points, more than the total accumulated in the first four races.
Everything changes in the other podium positions, with two Italian crews that emerged from the group: Marco Franchini’s Mezzaluna (4-4-11) moved on second positions, while Achille Onorato’s Mascalzone Latino Jr (14-3-2) is third after a not so good day one.
“We are really happy about the overall performance of our team: today was a demanding one and we did a great job on tactics and on boat handling. It’s a great way to return in the class and also Porto Venere is a great place to sail” said Marco Franchini.
Two Russians crews are now completing the top five: Dmitry Samokhin’s Rocknrolla (2-12-15) is fourth thanks to a great second in race number three and Melges 20 Monaco Winter Series winner Pirogovo (18-7-13), helmed by Alexander Ezhkov, is fifth.
Act 1 of Sailing Series Melges 20, organized by B.Plan Sport&Events along with Melges Europe, will finish tomorrow with a maximum of three more races and the prize giving to be held at the Sailing Series hospitality village.
