Porto Venere – Another great week end of sailing ended up in Porto Venere, with a full series of races valid for the first event of the Sailing Series Melges 20, organized by B.Plan Sport&Events along with Melges Europe and Comitato Circoli Velici del Golfo della Spezia.
Thanks to a solid performance, Richard Davies’ Section 16 (2-1-2), driven by the calls of Melges 24 World Champion Chris Rats, dominated the event held in the amazing Ligurian town with some important margin on Guido Miani’s Out of Reach (1-2-1), with Gabriele Benussi involved as tactician, that was second trailed by Michael Illbruck’s Pinta (3-4-4), that had on board America’s Cup winner John Kostecki.
“It was a pleasure to sail here in Porto Venere: the venue is amazing and we enjoined some incredible weather conditions. Also today, for the final races, we had good wind despite some not so good forecast – Richard Davies said – We are now focused on the next event, because the fight with Out of Reach will be really hard: they did some incredible job out there”.
Talking about the top five positions, former Gold Cup winner Stig (19-5-10), owned by Alessandro Rombelli, was fourth in front Marco Franchini’s Mezzaluna (20-33-7), that dropped down from the second position.
Sailing Series Melges 20 will return in Porto Ercole at the beginning of May (6-8) with Act 2.
