Middelfart – Will once again the Melges 24 World Champion come from Switzerland? Too early to tell, but during the day five of this great international event Chris Rast’s EFG (7-2-1 today) moved some important steps to the victory.
Thanks to some solid results, SUI-684 has now a huge lead respect the opponents, trailed by Andrea Racchelli’s Altea ITA-735 (6-70-4), who managed to keep safe the second spot of the ranking by the return of Bora Gulari’s Air Force One USA-820 (10-49-14), still being third.
Out on the bay the day was quite good for Audi Italia Sailing Team‘s Audi tron ITA-840 (12-7-32) that with two races still to sail hopes now to get a podium position.
Due to the important leading of EFG, the most interesting situation is now regarding the Corinthian division, with Tõnu Tõniste’s Lenny EST-790 (1-9-4) overtaking again three-time Corinthian champion Storm Capital Sail Racing NOR-751 (6-1-48), helmed by Øyvind Jahre. They are now separated just by nine points, but with just one more race in the bank we will have the second discard to shuffle the cards on the table. Third is a former leader Kicker Schäfer’s Musto Racing GER-803 (10-38-11).
For tomorrow weather forecast predicts some very light wind. PRO Hank Stuart plans to have the start of race thirteen at 11 am.
Today the Melges 24 sailors will have a gala dinner in a wonderful Hindsgavl Castle beginning at 7.30 pm. There are the reasons for many boats for celebrating, for sure, today.
We remind you that the series will count on 14 races and that after the end of race 13 the standings will include two discards.
Melges 24 World Championship is organized by Match Racing Denmark in collaboration with International Melges 24 Class Association and Middeflart Sailing Club.
