Farr 30 World Championship – Hyeres – Famosa tra i velisti di tutto il mondo per l’annuale Semaine Olympique Française, Hyères è conosciuta anche dalle classi grand-prix che trovano nel Golfo di Tolone condizioni di regata eccellenti. Tra appena cinque settimane, i concorrenti della classe Farr 30 potranno testare in prima persona questo celebre campo di regata partecipando al Campionato Mondiale Farr 30, in programma dal 23 al 31 ottobre 2010. Organizzati dalla classe e dal C.O.Y.C.H., i pre-mondiali si svolgeranno nelle giornate del 25 e 26 ottobre, mentre il titolo mondiale sarà messo in palio dal 28 al 31 ottobre. A oggi sono iscritti team provenienti da Francia, Germania, Olanda, Svezia e USA.
“Hyères è un posto fantastico per regatare e gli dei del vento solitamente sono generosi. A ottobre può esserci Maestrale o una forte brezza da est con mare grosso – ha dichiarato Deneen Demourkas, presidente della Classe Internazionale Farr 30 – Attendo con trepidazione questo campionato mondiale e le appassionanti sfide che si consumeranno tra i forti concorrenti dei Farr 30. Il club organizzatore, C.O.Y.C.H., ha un’eccellente reputazione nell’organizzare eventi di grande livello, la baia può offrire condizioni molto impegnative e sicuramente questo campionato sarà un test efficace per selezionare il team che si merita il titolo di campione mondiale.”
Oltre a Demourkas, che regaterà a bordo di Groovederci, anche Erik Maris a bordo di Twins cercherà di diventare il primo skipper a conquistare per due volte il titolo di campione mondiale Farr 30. In dodici edizioni, solo Alina ha conquistato la vittoria del campionato mondiale più di una volta – nel 2001 e nel 2002 – ma con skipper differenti (rispettivamente, Maurizio Abba-Luca Valerio e Giuseppe Abba). Nel 2009 non fu possibile disputare il mondiale a causa di un incendio nel club ospitante, pertanto Guy Stenning è il difensore del titolo dopo la vittoria conseguita a bordo di Optimum al campionato mondiale del 2008 svoltosi a Newport, negli USA.

MUMM 30 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, MUMM 30 FLEET HEADS TO HYERES
[Mumm 30 International Class Press Release] Renowned in sailing circles for its annual Olympic Sailing Week, Hyères, France, is also popular among grand prix classes who revel in the outstanding sailing conditions found on the Bay of Toulon. In just five weeks time, competitors in the Farr 30 class will experience the famous conditions firsthand when they compete for the Farr 30 World Championship title from October 23-31, 2010. Organized by the class and C.O.Y.C.H., the Pre-Worlds will take place October 25-26, with racing for the world title taking place October 28-31. To date, teams from France, Germany Sweden, The Netherlands and the U.S.A. have entered.
“Hyères is a beautiful place to sail where the wind gods are usually smiling. In October you can either have a Mistral or a very strong easterly bringing big seas with it,” said Deneen Demourkas, the Farr 30 International Class President. “I am really looking forward to this world championship and the extremely talented field of competitors racing in the Farr 30. C.O.Y.C.H. have an excellent reputation for putting on top notch events, the bay can be a very challenging place to sail and it will most certainly be a test worthy of a world champion title.”
In addition to Demourkas, who will race Groovederci, Erik Maris will sail Twins in a bid to become the first skipper to repeat as Farr 30 world champion. In 12 editions, only Alina has been victorious at the world championship more than once – in 2001 and 2002 – although with different skippers. With a world championship not held in 2009 due to a fire at the host club, Guy Stenning stands as the reigning world champion after winning the 2008 event aboard Optimum when it was contested in Newport, R.I.
