Mahón – The Menorca Maxi regatta, promoted by the Menorca Island Council and organised by the Mahón Yacht Club from 21 to 25 May, positions itself as one of the most exclusive competitions in the Mediterranean and, right from the first edition, joins the selective circuit of Maxi yacht regattas, hosted only by élite locations like Saint-Tropez and Porto Cervo.
In this first edition, while registrations are still open, Menorca Maxi has already confirmed the entry of nine Wally yachts, and three of the seven J Class vessels currently sailing. Such level of participation gives a clear idea of the incredible show and the supremely high level of competition that will take place on Menorca’s waters.
The staging of the regatta and the concentration of the most exclusive yachts attracts the world’s leading crews, including America’s Cup, Round the World and Olympic winners.
Menorca has the sea as part of its DNA, of its essence. With more than 216 kilometres of coastline, the island is surrounded by the Mediterranean, making it a paradise for lovers of beaches and coves of crystal-clear water.
Less well known, but just as highly prized, are the island’s attractions as a nautical destination. Winds which make sailing possible 365 days a year; a strategic location at the heart of the Mediterranean; a landscape of contrasts, with 280 waypoints of particular interest to sailors , and the perfect dimensions striking the ideal balance between nature and civilisation, make Menorca a first-class nautical destination.
Wally Class
The Wally Class is the world’s largest fleet of performance yachts over 24 metres in length. An exclusive club attracting Owners and enchanting spectators.
Wallys are unique yachts, custom designed and built, that combine superior performance, exceptional comfort, latest technology and contemporary design. The perfect balance between aesthetics and technology made the Wally brand a true icon for both lovers of design and sailing enthusiasts.
J Class
The J Class has its roots in the oldest and most spectacular sporting trophy in the world: the America’s Cup. These are classic yachts of between 38 and 42 metres, which stand out for their design, beauty, stylised lines and speed.
These were the yachts in the 1930’s which raced for the America’s Cup. Today a small number of yachts (seven) again compete on the world’s leading international Maxi circuits, at all times with first-rate professional crews.
