[singlepic=12,300,204,,left]Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta – Porto Cervo – Mancano solo tre settimane all’arrivo a Porto Cervo dell’imponente flotta dei giganti della vela che prenderà parte alla Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta 2009. Aperta agli scafi con lunghezza minima di 24 metri, la seconda edizione dell’evento è organizzata dallo Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) in collaborazione con Boat International Media.
Diciannove i superyacht iscritti alla competizione, con una lunghezza media di oltre 33 metri, dalla storica Aschanti IV costruita nel 1954, al nuovissimo Wally 101 Indio, varato nel maggio 2009. Di proprietà dell’armatore Andrea Recordati, socio dello YCCS e membro dell’ IMA, Indio è alla sua prima regata e festeggia il debutto sportivo proprio tra le acque di Porto Cervo.
“Siamo veramente emozionati – ha dichiarato Andrea Recordati, armatore di Indio e membro del Consiglio Direttivo dello YCCS – Non vediamo l’ora di poter gareggiare con i nostri amici a bordo del nuovo yacht per la sua prima regata sulle magnifiche acque della Sardegna, sotto il guidone dello Yacht Club Costa Smeralda”.
Diversi gli habitué agli eventi velici in Costa Smeralda, tra cui gli armatori Claus-Peter Offen, che dopo aver preso parte alla Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup e alla Boat International Superyacht Regatta nel 2008, torna sul campo di regata con il suo 30 metri Y3K; e Linsday Owen Jones, che si ripresenta con Magic Carpet 2 dopo la Superyacht Regatta dello scorso anno. Questi due scafi, entrambi Wally, sono stati progettati dal noto architetto navale German Frers. Occhi puntati sulla new entry Ganesha, un 39 metri di proprietà dell’armatore P.A. Walker che ha trionfato nella sua categoria alla St. Barths Bucket 2009 e che ha deciso di fermarsi sulle banchine della Marina di Porto Cervo dopo aver partecipato alla Dubois Cup dei primi di giugno.
Per quattro giorni i team iscritti alla competizione daranno prova delle proprie abilità tattiche veleggiando sui percorsi tracciati dal comitato di regata intorno alle suggestive isole granitiche dell’arcipelago de La Maddalena e lungo la costa nord orientale della Sardegna.
ll comitato di regata dello YCCS, presieduto dal Principal Race Officer dell’America’s Cup Peter Reggio, avrà solo l’imbarazzo della scelta nello stabilire quale tra le oltre trenta opzioni possibili, rappresenta il percorso migliore in base alle condizioni meteo della giornata.
Una volta rientrati in banchina gli armatori e gli equipaggi potranno chiudere in bellezza ogni giornata presenziando ad uno dei numerosi eventi previsti dal programma sociale, tra cui la la festa in spiaggia all’Hotel Romazzino e la cena per armatori presso la Clubhouse dello YCCS. Nel corso della cerimonia di premiazione di sabato 13 giugno il vincitore verrà premiato con la Loro Piana Prize Overall – Silver Jubilee Cup by Boat International Media.

This second edition of the event, organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) and Boat International Media, is open to yachts over 24 metres and will feature four days of racing from June 10th to 13th.
TITANS HEAD TO LORO PIANA SUPERYACHTS REGATTA
[Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta Press Release] Nineteen superyachts with an average length of over 33 metres will compete in the regatta. Entrants range from the cutting edge Wally 101 sloop Indio, launched just one month and making its regatta debut at the Porto Cervo event, to the classic Aschanti IV, launched in 1954.
“We are really excited,” commented Andrea Recordati, owner of Indio and member of the YCCS Board of Directors. “We are looking forward to taking our new yacht for her first regatta on the magnificent waters of our beloved Sardinia and racing her with our friends under the burgee of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda.”
Many of the participants are returning for the second time such as Claus Peter Offen’s Y3K and Lindsay Owen Jones’ Magic Carpet 2, both Wally yachts which came second and third respectively in the performance division in 2008. Additional competitors, including Peter Alexander Wacker’s 39-metre Ganesha, winner of her category at the 2009 St Barths Bucket, will be acclimatized to the Porto Cervo conditions having just completed the Dubois Cup, also organized by the YCCS from June 6th to 8th. The overall winner of the St Barths Bucket, the 51.6 metre Royal Huisman schooner Meteor, will also compete in the regatta.
Racing in the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta will take place over four days with courses set in and around the granite islands of the La Maddalena archipelago off the coast of north-eastern Sardinia. With more than 30 options to choose from, the only problem for the YCCS Race Committee, headed by America’s Cup Principal Race Officer Peter Reggio, will be deciding which spectacular route to send the fleet on based on the day’s conditions.
Once back ashore owners and crews alike will be kept entertained by the busy social program which includes a beach party at the Romazzino Hotel and an Owners Dinner at the YCCS Clubhouse. The Loro Piana Prize Overall – The Silver Jubilee Cup by Boat International Media will be presented to the overall winner during the prize giving ceremony scheduled for Saturday June 13th.
