Hublot Palmavela 2008 – Palma di Maiorca – Nonostante le previsioni meteo parlassero di tempo inclemente, il Comitato di Regata è riuscito ugualmente a dare inizio al terzo giorno di regate dell’Hublot Palma Vela. A favorire la decisione dei Giudici il vento leggero ma non troppo, tale comunque da garantire il regolare svolgimento della manche costiera – la brezza, salita nel corso della regata, ha raggiunto i 10 nodi e si è disposta da 180°, prevista su un percorso di quasi 25 miglia poco oltre la metà del quale è stato posizionato uno Scoring Gate.
Va comunque sottolineato che per barche pesanti svariatre decine di tonnellate, 10 nodi sono una dura realtà con la quale confrontarsi. E’ il caso di Esense, il Wally più grande della flotta, che necessità di qualche nodo in più per iniziare a crearsi apparente. Facendo buon viso a cattivo gioco, lo scafo di Luca Bassani ha navigato sulla destra del percorso e ha tenuto testa agli avversari, disputando un’ottima prova, chiusa al quarto posto dietro a Y3K, J One e Open Season.
La prova è servita a Lizard of Cornwall per assicurarsi la vittoria assoluta nella sua classe, grazie a un margine di 5 punti su Alarife Cien. Vittoria di Wallyno tra i Mini Maxi, un successo favorito dal dislocamento leggero dello scafo di Fernando Lopez, avvicinatosi al leader @robas, sempre primo, ma con un margine di soli 3 punti.
Nuova vittoria di Ran nella classe di cui è leader Luna Rossa. L’STP 65 di Patrizio Bertelli si è infatti confermato al comando del raggruppamento, seguito dai tedeschi di Container e da Bella Mente.Senza storia le regate dei TP52, dove a dominare è Matador, il nuovissimo scafo di Alberto Roemmers.

THE LIGHTEST BOATS RECEIVE THE BENEFIT OF A SOFT BREEZE DURING THE COASTAL REGATTA
[Hublot Palmavela 2009 Press Release] Although the forecast called for bad weather, the conditions made it possible to fire the start gun again in the 3rd day of the Hublot PalmaVela.
Today’s soft breeze has helped the lightest boats of each class gain some points in the coastal race, 25 miles in the Charlie-Hublot Big Bang area, with a scoring mark 17 miles after the starting line. The average wind was 10 knots at 180º, which made it difficult for the heaviest vessels to sail.
It was the case of Esense, the biggest Wally of the fleet, which needs at least 10 knots to be able to create apparent wind and ended up fourth. The 143 footer helmed by Luca Bassani started as usual on the windward side of the starting line. The scoring mark was the only opportunity to become tactical, and there the right side payed. It was a close race for the four Wallies today, won by german Y3K followed by J One, the english vessel owned by Tristan Kinloch, and Open Season in third place. Esense was fourth with the usual penalization of 2% on its time since the shipowner is not skipper on the boat. Open Season is leader in the overall classification, followed by Y3K, J One and Esense.
Regarding the rest of the maxis, in Maxi Cruiser Lizard of Cornwall is mathematically winner of its class, five points ahead of Alarife Cien.
The Maxi Mini C_R Wallyño of Fernando López scored a remarkable first today in the coastal race, also favored by its light displacement and is now second in the overall results, three points under french @robas.
Ran won today the coastal race, but brand new STP65 Luna Rossa and Container hold on to their first and second places in the overall classification in spite of having scored a fifth and a third respectively today. Bella Mente is third in the overall and Ran is fourth with one race less.
In TP52 Matador is virtual winner thanks to its two first places in the each of the windward-leeward races of the day.
