Antigua Sailing Week, un incendio danneggia seriamente Titan

Antigua – Un incendio, per fortuna senza conseguenze per l’equipaggio, ha seriamente danneggiato Titan Powerplay mentre si trovava all’ormeggio nel Falmouth Marina di Antigua.
Il Reichel Pugh 75, attualmente nell’isola caraibica per prendere parte all’Antigua Sailing Week sotto il comando di Peter Cunningham, è stato immediatamente trasferito in cantiere per essere sottoposto alle riparazioni del caso. La vastità della zona interessata e la gravità dei danni lascia presagire un lungo stop per il Mini Maxi di Tom e Dot Hill, armatori tra i più affezionati alla regata.
Sviluppatosi poco dopo il tramonto, l’incendio è stato domato dalle locali unità dei Vigili del Fuoco che sono intervenuti coadiuvati dal personale del Marina e dai componenti di alcuni equipaggi che hanno messo a disposizioni estintori e quant’altro a loro disposizione.
ANTIGUA SAILING WEEK, TITAN BADLY DAMAGED BY FIRE
[Antigua sailing Week Press Release] It is with a great degree of sadness that we must report that a fire on board Titan Powerplay took hold in Falmouth Marina last night resulting in the boat being badly damaged. Nobody has been injured, however the Reichel Pugh 75 has been damaged beyond immediate repair and will not be racing for the rest of the regatta.
The fire started sometime shortly after dusk and was attended by the Antigua and Barbuda Fire Service. Special mention must also go to the entire yachting community based in Falmouth Harbour. Fire fighting equipment and training is a very important aspect of their profession and numerous yacht crew were quick to respond.
Our thoughts are with Tom and Dot Hill, the owners of Titan, who have been staunch supporters of Antigua Sailing Week for many years and also to Peter Cunningham and his Powerplay crew that were racing Titan Powerplay for Sailing Week.
