World Match Racing Tour, chi sarà il Re della Montagna?

World Match Racing Tour – St. Moritz – Dopo una sosta di oltre un mese, il team Azzurra è nuovamente impegnato sui campi di regata del prestigioso circuito mondiale ISAF World Match Racing Tour: questa volta in Svizzera, per il St. Moritz Match Race 2010 in programma dal 31 agosto al 5 settembre. Per questa sesta tappa del World Match Racing Tour, lo scenario sarà un po’ diverso dal solito, con le magnifiche Alpi sullo sfondo e le acque del lago increspate dalla brezza termica Maloja che tipicamente soffia tra i 10 e i 25 nodi.

Francesco Bruni, skipper del team Azzurra, regaterà in equipaggio con il suo “fidato” trio composto da Matteo Auguadro, Thomas Burnham e Pierluigi De Felice. All’evento parteciperanno dodici dei migliori skipper di match racing al mondo, tra cui il francese Mathieu Richard, attuale leader della classifica del tour, il neozelandese Adam Minoprio, campione mondiale ISAF 2009 e vincitore del St. Moritz Match Race dello scorso anno, e il fuoriclasse inglese Ben Ainslie, detentore di tre medaglie d’oro olimpiche.

Le regate si svolgeranno a bordo dei Blu 26, barche molto leggere e maneggevoli ottimizzate per le regate sui laghi alpini e prodotte dal cantiere svizzero BluBoats. Il programma di regata prevede una giornata di allenamento martedì 31 agosto, seguita da un Round Robin, quarti di finale, semifinali e finali.

Francesco Bruni, che ha già partecipato a due edizioni del St. Moritz Match Race ma solo una volta con i Blu26, ha dichiarato: “Sono molto contento di tornare a regatare al World Match Racing Tour, è stata una lunga pausa dall’ultima tappa in Svezia e abbiamo tanta voglia di riscattarci! Regatare a St. Moritz è sempre un’esperienza unica, si respira un’aria diversa e un po’ di fresco dopo un agosto così caldo non dispiace affatto. Il posto è molto bello e le condizioni sono sempre variabili. Difficile fare previsioni. Il nostro obiettivo è sicuramente raggiungere la finale, ci siamo arrivati vicini tante volte ma ancora non ci siamo riusciti. Siamo determinati e le prossime due tappe del tour, Svizzera e Danimarca, significano molto per noi e per Azzurra“.

WORLD MATCH RACING TOUR, READY FOR THE ACTION
[Yacht Club Costa Smeralda Press Release] After a long summer break of over a month, Team Azzurra is once again ready to compete against some of the best skippers in the world at the St. Moritz Match Race 2010, stage six of the ISAF World Match Racing Tour that will run from August 31st to September 5th. This time the scenery will be slightly different from what we have seen so far on the tour, with the majestic Alps in the background and the Maloja thermal breeze funnelling through the valley at 10-25 knots.

Francesco Bruni, skipper of Team Azzurra, will be sailing with his “devoted” match racing crew, which includes Matteo Auguadro, Thomas Burnham and Pierluigi De Felice. Twelve of the best match race skipper in the world will compete at the event, including Mathieu Richard from France, current tour leader, Adam Minoprio from New Zealand, 2009 ISAF world champion and winner of last year’s St. Moritz Match Race, and Ben Ainslie from the UK, winner of three Olympic gold medals.

The crew will race on the Blu26, light and manoeuvrable boats optimised to race on Alpine lakes and distributed by the Swiss company BluBoats. The programme of the event includes one day of practice on Tuesday August 31st, followed by a Round Robin, Quarter Finals, Semifinals and Finals.

Francesco Bruni, who has already competed twice at the St. Moritz Match Race but only once with the Blu26, commented: “I am really happy to be back again on the World Match Racing Tour, we had a long break after the last stage in Sweden and we are eager to fight and bounce back! Racing in St. Moritz is always a unique experience, the air is different and it is finally cooler, a pleasant change from the heat that we’ve had this summer! The setting is idyllic and the conditions can be variable. It is hard to make predictions. Our goal is obviously to reach the finals, we came close so many times before but were never able to get to where we wanted. We are very determined and the next two stages of the tour, Switzerland and Denmark, are very important for us and for Team Azzurra.”
