Louis Vuitton World Series, una prima mondiale

[singlepic id=1556 w=300 h=204 float=left]Louis Vuitton World Series – Parigi – Se ne parlava ormai da diverso tempo – su Zerogradinord ne parlavamo già alla fine di maggio – e come da programmi l’annuncio è arrivato proprio con l’inizio di settembre: Louis Vuitton, sull’onda del successo delle Pacific Series, gioca al rialzo e rilancia l’idea di un circuito di regate globale che vedrà impegnati dieci tra i team più noti dell’agonismo velico internazionale.
Quattro di questi – K-Challenge, BMW Oracle Racing, Emirates Team New Zealand e Mascalzone Latino – si sono già associati in quella che ha preso il nome di World Sailing Team Association e hanno dato il benvenuto ad altri equipaggi come Team Artemis (SWE), Joe Fly Italia (ITA), Team Synergy (RUS) e Team French Spirit (FRA).
Battezzato Louis Vuitton World Series, il circuito, che a grandi linee dovrebbe seguire lo stesso format delle Pacific Series di Auckland, si articolerà su una serie di appuntamenti che si svolgeranno tra la fine del 2009 e il 2010. Il primo evento dovrebbe svolgersi a Nizza e a seguire la carovana toccherà Hong Kong, Auckland e New York. Al momento Bruno Troublé, deus ex machina dell’evento, sta definendo accordi con altre località, una delle quali potrebbe essere italiana.
Le barche utilizzate saranno, come avvenuto in Nuova Zelanda, quattro ACC protagonisti dell’America’s Cup 2007 ma in occasione degli eventi europei saranno impiegati scafi diversi.
Maggiori dettagli verranno resi noti nel corso di una conferenza stampa in programma il prossimo 8 settembre a Parigi.
LOUIS VUITTON WORLD SERIES, A WORLD FIRST
[Louis Vuitton World Series Press Release] Some of the best professional sailing teams, grouped together under the name WSTA (World Sailing Team Association), and Louis Vuitton, a key player in the world of top-level sailing for more than 25 years, today announced the creation of an international regatta circuit.
The WSTA (World Sailing Team Association) groups together the participants in previous Louis Vuitton Cup regattas (K-Challenge (France), BMW Oracle Racing (USA), Emirates Team New Zealand (NZL), Mascalzone Latino (Italy)) and welcomes newcomers such as Team Artemis (Sweden), Team Synergy (Russia), Joe Fly Italia (Italy) and Team French Spirit (France). Other teams will join the association in the coming weeks.
Entitled the Louis Vuitton World Series, these regattas are a first in the world of sailing and follow on from the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series organised in Auckland, New Zealand, last February. The global success of this exceptional competition persuaded all the partners in this adventure to create a dynamic and ambitious new race programme based on the same concept and format.
10 teams will be invited to confront each other in successive duels over a fortnight on two pairs of identical boats chosen by lot. The racing boats were sailed in the 2007 LV Cup. This concept, which demonstrates the desire to return to the original spirit of “match racing”, provides an exhilarating show and is easy for spectators to understand.
The WSTA and Louis Vuitton plan to organise several regattas a year. Many cities of which Nice, Hong Kong, Auckland, New York and several other European venues have shown their interest.
A press conference will be held in Paris on Tuesday September 8th. More details about the first events to be organised in 2009 and 2010 will be disclosed during this conference.
