TP52 World Championship, in dieci a Valencia

TP52 World Championship – Valencia – Dieci TP52 da nove diverse nazioni si sono già registrati per il TP52 World Champioship 2010, in programma nelle conosciute acque di Valencia, in Spagna, dal 5 al 9 ottobre.

L’equipaggio di Alberto Roemmers, a bordo di Matador è chiamato a difendere il titolo mondiale vinto l’anno scorso a Palma di Maiorca, ma dovrà affrontare la dura concorrenza di una flotta che comprende i campioni del mondo di Quantum Racing – che ha portato a casa, nel 2008, sia sia il titolo Audi MedCup sia il mondiale – e dello svedese Torbjorn Tornqvist, l’armatore che ha timonato la sua Artemis in entrambi i titoli del 2007.

A far parte della flotta anche due team inglesi, non abituali frequentatori dell’Audi MedCup: Pace di Jonny Vincent e Weapon of Choice di Tony Langley (ex Matador 2008). E mentre Weapon of Choice si è divertito a correre il mondiale a Palma lo scorso anno, per Vincent questa  la prima stagione a bordo dell’ex Patches progettato da Reichel Pugh.

Questi i commenti di Rob Weiland, Manager della TP52 Class: “Considerando il clima economico e quello che sta accadendo in altre zone d’elite dello sport, siamo felici di accogliere, a Valencia, lo stesso numero di TP52 che avevamo a Palma. E’ un’ottima ragione per pensare di unirsi alla classe a tempo pieno nel 2011. Valencia, vista la sua ottima reputazione, non ha bisogno poi di ulteriori presentazioni, e certamente permetterà a molte delle squadre di sentirsi ‘a casa’. Ci sono ora diverse squadre che sono ancora valutando se partecipare o meno a questa battaglia per lo scettro mondiale, per cui le iscrizioni sono ancora aperte. Ci sono anche potenziali opportunità di charter: su tutti, Team Origin, che potrebbe essere disponibile direttamente nella propria base di Valencia”.

L’edizione 2010 del TP52 World Championship si terrà dunque al largo di Valencia da martedì 5 a sabato 9 ottobre, e sarà organizzato dal World Sailing Management, dalla Città di Valencia, dal Consorzio Valencia 2007, dal Real Club Nautico de Valencia, dalla TP52 Class, dalla Federazione Spagnola di Vela e dalla Federazione Vela di Valencia.

La base per il Campionato Mondiale 2010 dei TP52 sarà la Marina Real Juan Carlos I, nel cuore del porto di Valencia, con la flotta dei TP52 che sarà ormeggiata proprio di fronte all’edificio Veles e Vents.

TP52 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, TEN TEAMS WILL MEET IN VALENCIA
[TP52 World Championship Press Release] Ten TP52s from nine different nations have already registered their entry to the 2010 TP52 World Championship that will be held on the renowned waters off Valencia, Spain, from 4th – 9th October.

Alberto Roemmers’ crew on Matador will be seeking to defend the world title that they won last year in Palma, Mallorca. But they will face tough competition from a fleet which includes past world championship winning owners or skippers, Quantum Racing – which completed the double in 2008, winning both the Audi MedCup title and the worlds – and Swedish owner Torbjorn Tornqvist who steered his Artemis crew to both titles in 2007.

Two British teams, which are not Audi MedCup regulars, Jonny Vincent’s Pace (ex Ran and Patches) and Tony Langley’s Weapon of Choice (ex 2008 Matador), join the World Championships fleet. While Weapon of Choice enjoyed racing at the Palma Worlds last year, this is Vincent’s first season with the Reichel Pugh designed former Patches.

Rob Weiland, TP52 Class Manager comments: “Considering the economic climate and what has been happening in other elite areas of the sport, it is great to be looking forward to welcoming the same number of TP52’s to Valencia as we had in Palma. It’s a great reason to think of joining the class full time for 2011. The reputation of Valencia needs no further introduction and will surely allow many of the teams to feel at home”.

There are several teams that are still considering taking part in this battle for the TP52 world crown, which keeps the entry list still open. “There are potential charter opportunities, not least TeamOrigin which could be available directly from their Valencia base,” Weiland concludes.

The 2010 edition of the TP52 World Championship will be held off Valencia from Tuesday October 5 to Saturday October 9, and will be organised by World Sailing Management, the City of Valencia, Consorcio Valencia 2007, the Real Club Náutico de Valencia, the TP52 Class, the Spanish Sailing Federation and the Valencian Sailing Federation.

The base for the 2010 TP52 World Championship will be the Marina Real Juan Carlos I at the heart of the port of Valencia, and the competing TP52 fleet will be docked in front of the iconic Veles e Vents building.
