Puerto Portals – It was another day at the office in the Bay of Palma for the 52 Super Series fleet. Actually, day 2 of the Puerto Portals Sailing Week, third event of the circuit reserved for the TP52 class, has traced the characteristics of the opening day, with sea breeze blowing from South Westerly between 8 and 12 knots.
It was a brilliant day for Azzurra (Parada-Vascotto, 2-2), that drew contend with Quantum Racing (DeVos-Hutchinson, 4-5) and brought itself in second position, just one point ahead Bronenosec Gazprom (Liubomirov-Ivaldi, 1-8) and Provezza (Imre-Bedsworth, 5-1), respectively third and fourth of the provisional ranking.
The bearer TP52 of the Saint Petersburg Yacht Club had a very good first race, during which has shown to be able to count on a good speed, but struggled a little bit in the second one after a no perfect start.
“It’s fantastic. Now we are the only crew to have two wins out on four races: this really shows how hard we have worked between the last two events. It’s time to focus ourself on the consistency although it’s very difficult to start well in this fleet and be consistent on that. We still have three days of sailing and we have to keep us in the fight fr the podium until the final day” stressed the Bronenosec Gazprom’s pitman Andy Fethers at the end of the fourth race.
The Puerto Portals Sailing Week will resume tomorrow afternoon with other two windward-leeward races and will end on Friday. On Thursday the Race Committee will engage the fleet in the coastal race. The event will count on a ten races series, with no discard allowed.
In Puerto Portals, Bronenosec Gazprom is sailed by Vladimir Liubomirov (owner-driver), Michele Ivaldi (skipper-tactician), Adrian Stead (strategist), Francesco Mongelli (navigator), Victor Serezhkin (backstay), Paul Westlake (mainsail trimmer), Claudio Celon (trimmer), Zack Hurst (trimmer), Emanuele Marino (grinder), Pietro Mantovani (grinder), Andy Fethers (pitman), Alex Kulakov (floater), Michele Cannoni (mid-bow) and Alberto Barovier (team manager-bowman). The team activity is coordinated by the coach Francesco de Angelis while the shore team leader is Francesco Binetti Pozzi.
