52 Super Series, Bronenosec Gazprom confirms itself as master of the offshore races

Scarlino – On Day 3 of the Scarlino Cup, opening event of the 52 Super Series 2016, Bronenosec Gazprom confirms itself as master of the coastal races, grabbing a clear win on the long distance regatta held today in the Follonica Gulf and characterized by light breeze blowing from south.

In command of the fleet since from the first rounding of Isolotto dello Sparviero, Vladimir Liubomirov’s crew did an amazing job, holding the concentration high and consolidating the margin over the opponents, led by Alegre (Soriano-Harrap, 2) and Azzurra (Parada-Vascotto, 3). It’s important to underline that, starting from past year, Bronenosec Sailing Team won four of the six coastal race held under the flag of the 52 Super Series.

“It was a fantastic day. The key moment was the start and the first few minutes of sailing, when we made really a good job keeping the numbers in the target despite we were sailing in a very high mode. Once we felt ourself comfortable, we start running on fast numbers reaching the lead of the race and holding it until he finish line” Bronenosec Gazprom main trimmer Paul Westlake explained once on the dock.

Thanks to this results, the bearer hull of the Saint Petersburg Yacht Club, that this morning was at the eight position of the ranking, moves up to the five place, just four points far from the second position, currently in the hands of Provezza (Beadsworth-Rey, 6), tied with Platoon (Muller Spreer-Wieser, 5). The leader, with six points on the pursuers, is still Quantum Racing (Baird-Hutchison, 4).

Tomorrow the TP52 fleet will be again in the water for two more races. According to the weather forecast, it could be a tricky day, with light and shifty breeze. The Scarlno Cup will end on Sunday.

The team’s activities is coordinated by the coaches Francesco de Angelis and Flavio Favini.
