ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year, una settimana all’appuntamento

La Federvela internazionale sta lavorando alacremente all’organizzazione della serata di gala, in programma allo Zappeion di Atene, città scelta dall’ISAF come sede dall’assemblea annuale. Lo show sarà presentato dalla campionessa olimpica Sofia Bekatorou e dal commentatore Richard Simmonds. Ospiti di presitigio saranno l’ex sovrano di Grecia, Costantino, il Principe di Danimarc e Arnaud Boetsch della Rolex.

Il Rolex ISAF World Sailor of the Year è il massimo riconoscimento cui può ambire un velista in attività. Tra i vincitori del titolo figurano alcuni grandi nomi della vela internazionale. Dal 1994 a oggi lo hanno conquistato Peter Blake, Ellen MacArthur, Robert Scheidt e Russell Coutts. Lo scorso anno ad aggiudicarselo sono stati Torben Grael e Anna Tunnicliffe.

I nominati, scelti da appassionati e addetti ai lavori sulla base di quanto fatto nel corso della stagione 2009-2010, sono come sempre dieci. Quest’anno però quattro sono le donne e sei gli uomini. Tra questi figura il due volte campione del mondo Melges 24 Lorenzo Bressani, fresco del trionfo iridato ottenuto al Mondiale Melges 32 di San Francisco.

L’ulima italiana ad aggiudicarsi il riconoscimento è stata Alessandra Sensini che lo ha vinto nel 2008 assieme a Ben Ainslie.

ISAF ROLEX WORLD SAILOR OF THE YEAR, ONE WEEK UNTIL 2010 ISAF ROLEX WORLD SAILOR OF THE YEAR AWARD WINNERS ARE NAMED
[Regattanews Press Release] In just one week from today, on Tuesday 9 November, Greece will play host to a spectacular ceremony and presentation where the male and female winners of the 2010 ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Awards will be announced.

The Zappeion in Athens will be the venue for the 2010 ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Awards Dinner and Presentation. It is a night to celebrate sailing, for sailors and by sailors. The evening will be hosted by Rolex Testimonee and Olympic gold medallist Sofia Bekatorou-Kosmatopoulos and sailing presenter Richard Simmonds.

His Majesty King Constantine will announce the winners of this years Awards, presenting the unique marble and silver World Sailor Trophy and a personalized Rolex timepiece with His Royal Highness the Crown Prince of Denmark and Arnaud Boetsch of Rolex SA.

This year four female and six male nominees have been shortlisted for the Award, based on their achievements during the qualifying period of 1 September 2009 to 31 August 2010.

The ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Award is the highest award a sailor can receive in recognition of his/her outstanding achievements. The Awards are presented annually based on a worldwide selection process that incorporates an open invitation to nominations, followed by a vote amongst the 130 member nations of the International Sailing Federation (ISAF).

The Awards have been held every year since 1994 and past winners include Peter Blake, Ellen MacArthur, Robert Scheidt and Russell Coutts. In 2009 the Awards were presented to Torben Grael and Anna Tunnicliffe.
