D-One Gold Cup, Ivan Gaspic indica la via

D-One Gold Cup – Valencia – L’ottobre valenciano accoglie al meglio la flotta della Magic Marine BetPro D-One Gold Cup. Sole, temperatura estiva e una brezza da sudest tra gli 8 e i 14 nodi hanno esaltato le prestazioni del D-One originando due prove spettacolari ed estremamente combattute. Il primo evento internazionale del nuovo adrenalinico singolo D-One progettato dal guru inglese delle derive Phil Morrison, ideato e sviluppato dall’argento olimpico Luca Devoti e costruito dal cantiere Devoti Sailing diretto da Roman Teply, ha quindi i primi due vincitori, che sono l’ex laserista ungherese Zsombor Berecz e il finnista croato Ivan Gaspic. Perfetta l’organizzazione del Real Club Nautico de Valencia e di Devoti Sailing che, a fine regate, hanno accolto i timonieri con una gustosa paella velanciana.

Luca Devoti sulla giornata di oggi ha detto: “Siamo molto curiuosi di vedere chi la spunterà alla fine. La flotta ha un livello molto buono e devo segnalare che nei primi posti ci sono timonieri con pesi molto diversi, tra i 100 chili di Gaspic e Wright e i 72 di Zabalua, tutti riescono a essere competitivi”.

Ivan Gaspic, in testa alla classifica dopo due prove con un 3-1, ha detto: “Oggi la chiave era la velocità, sia in bolina che in poppa. Il D-One è un’idea perfetta di Luca Devoti, una barca davvero riuscita che promette bene e fa divertire”.

Le due prove hanno originato una classifica molto corta, che fa presumere gran lotta nei prossimi due giorni, anche perché l’ultima prova a punteggio doppio e non scartabile lascia tutto aperto fino alla fine. Al comando appunto il croato Ivan Gaspic (3-1), che precede l’argentino Agustìn Zabalua, recente vincitore del titolo italiano ad Alassio, autore di un 4-2. Terzo posto per l’ungherese Zsombor Berecz (1-6). Al quarto posto l’inglese Ed Wright (6-3), vincitore un mese della Finn Gold Cup a San Francisco. Quinto e migliore degli italiani è il marchigiano Andrea Giammarini, protagonista di due belle prove (5-4). Seguono tra i primi dieci anche Alberto Ferrari (2-11), Paolo Rossi (7-7), Fabio Toccoli (12-5). Completano i primi dieci in classifica due cechi: Michael Maier e Roman Teply.

Domani altre due prove. Domenica la conclusione, con la quinta e sesta prova, quest’ultima decisiva con il suo valore doppio.

D-ONE GOLD CUP, IVAN GASPIC TAKES THE LEAD
[D-One Gold Cup Press Release] Valencian October welcomed at the best today the Magic Marine BetPro D-One Gold Cup’s fleet. Sun, summer temperatures and a nice seabreeze from 8 to 14 knots took the best from the D-One. Two fantastic races were sailed with lots of fun and tough racing by the 31 helmsmen fleet from 14 countries. This is the first event of the adrenaline-pumping single-handed dinghy designed by UK dinghy master Phil Morrison, tested and developed by Olympic Silver Medallist Luca Devoti, and built by Devoti Sailing managed by Roman Teply. The early winners ot the Championship are Hungarian Zsombor Berecz and Croatian finn sailor Ivan Gaspic. The organization by the world renowned Real Club Nautico de Valencia and Devoti Sailing was perfect. At the end of the day, sailors were welcomed onshore with a marvellous Valencian Paella.

Talking about the day, Luca Devoti said: “Who will win in a couple of days? There are a lot of good guys out there that can win this event. The fleet in very high-talented and I want to point out that there are sailors in the top positions with very different weights, ranging from 100 kg like Gaspic or Wright down to Zabalua’s 72 kg, all can be competitive in the D-One”.

Croatian Ivan Gaspic, top ranked after two races, said: “Today was all about speed, both upwind and downwind. This boat is a perfect idea by Luca Devoti, nice hull and lots of fun”.

Today’s races resulted in a very tight leaderboard, which suggests a hard fight in the next two days, because the double point score of the last race will keep everything open untill the end. Croation Ivan Gaspic (3-1) took an early lead with a two point advantage over Argentinean Agustin Zabalua (4-2). Third was Hungarian Zsombor Berecz (1-6). British Ed Wright, winner one month ago of the Finn Gold Cup, took the fourth place (6-3). In the fifth there is the first Italian, Andrea Giammarini (5-4). The event resumes tomorrow with two more races.
