Trofeo Principessa Sofia, vento di cambiamento

[singlepic id=5490 w=300 h=204 float=left]Trofeo Principesa Sofia – Palma di Maiorca – Dopo il ventone di lunedì, ieri a Palma tutte le classi sono tornate a regatare grazie a una brezza che dai 15 nodi del mattino è diminuti in intensità nel corso del pomeriggio, assestandosi attorno agli 8 nodi. Condizioni che non hanno impensierito gli azzurri, sempre sugli scudi in diverse classi quando si è da poco oltrepassata la boa di metà manifestazione.

Nell’RS:X Femminile, infatti, a guidare la classifica è l’inossidabile Alessandra Sensini, balzata al comando grazie ai due successi ottenuti lunedì. Terza, dietro all’esoerta Bryony Shaw, è la giovanissima Laura Linares, leader della prima ora. Bene Fabian Heiddeger in campo maschile, dove difende la sesta piazza di una graduatoria guidata dal graco Byron Kokkalanis.

Ottime notizie dalla Star dove Diego Negri e Ferdinando Colaninno hanno preso il comando dei giochi seppur con un solo punto di margine su Flavio Marazzi ed Enrico De Maria. Certo l’assenza dei campioni modiali Percy-Simpson e di altri equipaggi di punta si nota, ma l’armo italiano sta dando prova di grande continuità in una classe pur sempre frequentata da grandi campioni.

Grazie a un vantaggio di 5 punti Giulia Conti e Giovanna Micol hanno ripreso la testa della classifica dall’assalto nel 470 Femminile e la difendono dall’assalto delle francesi Petitjean-Douroux che hanno commentato: “E’ stata una giornata molto interessante: tre regate con tre venti diversi”.

Nel Finn scalano posizioni gli atleti italiani – Giorgio Poggi è quindicesimo – ma Rafael Trujillo appare davvero imprendibile. In rimonta anche il 49er dei fratelli Sibello, attualmente fermi in nona posizione, staccati di oltre 50 punti dai francesi Dyen-Christidis, leader davanti a due armi britannici.

Poca gioia invece dal 470 Maschile, dove guidano gli isrlaeliani Gideon-Eran e il migliore dei nostri equipaggi – Zeni-Pitanti – è ventiduesimo e dal Laser con Giacomo Bottoli dodicesimo lontano dalle piazze che contano. Stesso discorso dicasi per il Laser Radial: Francesca Clapcich è undicesima a 40 punti dalla coppia di testa composta dalla ceca Veronika Flencova e dalla spagnola Susana Romero Steensma.

PRINCESS SOFIA TROPHY, CHANGING WINDS BRING CHANGES IN THE RANKINGS
[Princess Sofia Trophy Press Release] The weather conditions divided the day in two halves. The morning began with NW wind, 15 knots and at around 2 pm, the wind dropped and all classes were postponed. The fleet could race again in the afternoon with W wind, 8 knots.

An outstanding day in Laser standard for Javier Hernández who has climbed up to the top of the class standings after today’s races. Second place is for Croatian sailor Tonci Stipanovic and third overall is Nick Thompsom from Great Britain.

Czech Republic sailor Veronica Fenklova and Susana Romero from Spain keep their exciting battle for the lead in the Laser radial. Third place overall is for Tina Mihelic from Croatia at only 5 points from the leaders.

Spanish Finn sailor Rafa Trujillo also keeps the lead after the three races sailed today. Second place is for French competitor followed by Andrew Mills from Great Britain in third position overall.

In RS:X men, Greek sailor Byron Kokkalanis climbs to the top of the standings after a second and third place in today’s races. Zubari from Israel falls to second place followed closely by British sailor Tom Ashley.

The battle goes on for the top 5 places between Great Britain, France and Spain with Italian sailor Alessandra Sensini still in the lead followed by British sailor Bryony Shaw and Charline Picon from France, second and third respectively.

French lead in 49er with Emmanuel Dyen and Sthéphane Christidis at the top of the standings with a seven point advantage over second classified Stevie Morrison from Great Britain.

Israeli team Kilger Gilen and Sela Eran celebrated Gilen’s 30th birthday, which was yesterday, taking the lead in 470 men. “We had a bad start in the second race” said Eran while Gilen added it was the worse result possible crossing the finishing line in 34th position. But their regular performance and the discard of today’s bad result gives them the chance of reaching their goal of winning this Sofía Mapfre.

The leading team in the 470 women fleet is Giulia Conti and Giovanna Micol from Italy followed by French sailors, Ingrid Petitjean y Nadège Douroux, who, step by step, wish to climb to the top of the standings. Petitjean said it was a good day of racing with interesting weather conditions: three races, three winds.

Italy also leads the Star fleet with team Negri Diego and Ferdinando Colaninno followed closely by Swiss sailors Flavio Marazzi and Enrico de Maria. Swedish Fredrik Lööf and German sailor Alexander Schlonski are tied with equal points in third and fourth position.

The pairings for the quarter finals to be sailed tomorrow have been decided in the Women Match Racing with Claire Leroy’ team from France against Nicky Souter’s team from Australia; Silke Hahlbrock’s team from Germany against Sally Barkow from the USA; Lotte Meldgaard’s Danish team against Renee Groeneveld’s Dutch team and Katie Spithill’s team from Australia against Lucy Macgregor’s British team.
