Ancona – The weather keeps playing tricks to the Laser fleet of over 260 sailors gathered in these days in Ancona for the first event of the Europa Cup Laser 2018.
After a no race in the first day because of the eccessive wind, Easter Day reserves a totally different scenario, with light and shifty breeze that went progressively diminishing, so much that the 4.7 fleet did not manage to conclude even one race, while sailors of the Standard and Radial fleets scored the first points of the series.
In the two groups of the Radial fleet, the first bullets were scored respectively by the Finnish entry Joakim Svinhufvud in the Green division and by Gianpaolo Gusella in the Blue division. Silver medal for Daniel Book from Finland and Manon Peyre from France, while Lennart Wirth from Germany and Esfahani Ghasemzadeh from Italy complete the provisional podium of the Radial fleet.
In the Standard fleet, Polish entry Damian Kosmalski leads the provisional ranking, followed by Tim Conradi and Edoardo Libri, athlete racing in the waters of his home town for the colors of the hosting club of the event, SEF Stamura.
Races will resume tomorrow, when the Race Committee presided by Pierluigi De Luise will call the sailors on the water at 11.00am: the sports facilities of the hosting harbor Marina Dorica allow to launch the over 260 boats in the water in less than 30 minutes, but the forecast of diminishing wind during the day required to anticipate the first warning, set for the first two days of racing at 1pm.
