Final Saturday for the 53rd Princesa Sofia Trophy in Palma de Mallorca, with extreme conditions that allow only a few disciplines to test. For Italy 4 medals arrive and the record in the medal table with two gold and two silver.
The Princesa Sofia trophy in Palma ended on a high note, despite no wind, allowing the Italian expedition to return home with a decent haul of medals and some regret for a few medals that could have given some more satisfaction but were not contested. Renna, a specialist in this type of format, would most likely have been able to improve his final position which was unfortunately penalized by yesterday’s BFD which dropped him in the rankings. At the foot of the podium Maggetti also remains on the ground today like all the Windsurfing teams while Pescetto finishes the trophy in fourth place after today’s medal series.
For the medals, after yesterday’s mathematical gold by Tita Banti, also comes the second place of Ugolini Giubilei who was able to close the Spanish week well with a silver made of solid tests. In the Women’s Skiff (49er:FX) gold by Germani Bertuzzi who yesterday found the definitive shot to take the lead in the gold fleet and find themselves today, without racing, with the most prestigious medal around their neck. In the Men’s Kite (Formula Kite M) Piano finished in second place after today’s trials behind his usual rival in many regattas, the Singaporean Maeder.
These are the words of DT Michele Marchesini: “We came to Palma with technical objectives that went beyond the rankings in the various disciplines, we certainly brought home good confirmations and a lot of material to analyze. The team’s performance was of a very high profile: winning the medal table at this stage of the World Cup is no small satisfaction and, above all, a confirmation of the work we are carrying out. Well done Tita and Banti, capable of combining technique and experience. Germani and Bertuzzi continue their journey with very solid and interesting performances due to their technical and tactical peculiarities. Ugolini and Giubilei did well, fast and constant. Pianosi, after a complicated start, improved to the final silver. In two weeks in France we will compete for the non-nominal Olympic passes for the Men’s Skiff (49er) and the Mixed Dinghy (470). I have said several times that I am confident and that I believe in these guys for the win. I haven’t changed my mind.”
