Louis Vuitton Pacific Seris, USA-87 e USA-98 sono ad Auckland

[singlepic=1068,250,170,,left] Louis Vuitton Pacific Series – Auckland – A un mese e mezzo dall’inizio delle Louis Vuitton Pacific Series, Auckland ha festeggiato l’arrivo dei due ACC che BMW Oracle Racing ha messo a disposizione dell’organizzazione.

Il responsabile dello shore team del sindacato statunitense, Grant Davidson, ha comunicato che già nelle prossime ore inizieranno i lavori di armamamento e modifica dei due scafi. USA-87 e USA-98 verranno ritoccate al fine di equipararne le prestazioni. Il varo delle imbarcazioni è fissato per la metà di gennaio.

Ricordiamo che alle Pacific Series, in programma tra il 31 gennaio e il 14 febbraio 2009, è prevista la partecipazione di un massimo di dodici team e l’impiego di quattro barche. Oltre agli scafi prestati dal sindacato di Larry Ellison, verranno utilizzate anche NZL-84 e NZL-92. Purtroppo, il Comitato Organizzatore si è trovato a fare i conti con la difficile situazione economica internazionale e, nei giorni seguenti la presentazione dei team, ha registrato il ritiro di Mascalzone Latino e di United Internet Team Germany e l’indisponibilità a partecipare da parte di Team French Spirit, immediatamente contattato in quanto inserito nella lista delle riserve.

ORACLE’S YACHTS ARRIVE FOR THE PACIFIC SERIES
[New Zealand Press Association] Preparations for the Pacific Series match-racing regatta took a step forward today with the arrival of two America’s Cup boats lent by United States syndicate Oracle.
  
BMW Oracle Racing shore manager Grant Davidson said the two yachts were expected to be ready to be relaunched off Auckland in the middle of next month.
  
Hosts Team New Zealand are also supplying two boats for the Louis Vuitton-sponsored regatta, which will involve 10 teams, including America’s Cup holders Alinghi. Team NZ‘s yachts will be raced as a pair during the January 31 to February 16 event, as will Oracle‘s two.
  
Alinghi and Oracle remain embroiled in a courtroom battle that will determine the timing and format of the next America’s Cup.
  
The two-week Pacific Series was organised to fill the void created by the uncertainty surrounding the next cup competition. There was huge interest when the series was announced and 12 teams were confirmed last month.
  
However, the worldwide economic downturn has resulted in the withdrawal of two of them – Italy’s Mascalzone Latino and United Internet Team Germany.
