America’s Cup, continua la trattativa per Newport

[singlepic id=4955 w=320 h=213 float=left]America’s Cup – Newport – Con l’amministrazione di San Francisco bloccata sulle posizioni contenute nella proposta recapitata al Defender la scorsa settimana, gli uomini di BMW Oracle Racing hanno riavviato le trettative con l’amministrazione del Rhode Island per tentare di raggiungere un accordo che fissi a Newport la sede della 34ma America’s Cup.
Il management del team di Larry Ellison avrebbe individuato nel Fort Adams State Park la sede ideale per allestire il villaggio, le basi e le altre infrastrutture necessarie allo svolgimento dell’evento.
A riprova di ciò pubblichiamo una lettera inviata lo scorso 17 dicembre da Stephen Barclay a Keith Stokes del Rhode Island Economic Development.
Ricordiamo che la data ultima fissata da BMW Oracle Racing per la comunicazione della sede delle regate valide per la 34ma America’s Cup è il 31 dicembre.
“Caro Keith,
ci tengo a ringraziati per il tempo che hai dedicato al meeting con il nostro team la scorsa settimana e, in particolare, per aver organizzato l’incontro con il Presidente del Senato, Paiva-Weed.
Nel corso della passata settimana ci avete spiegato chiaramente come il Rhode Island, e più espressamente il Fort Adams State Park, abbiano le potenzialità di ospitare la 34ma America’s Cup, evento sportivo tra i più importanti al mondo in termini di benefici economici e attenzione dei mass media. Siamo rimasti molto colpiti da Fort Adams e dalla possibilità di trasformala nel centro di accesso alla Narragansett Bay.
Siamo seriamente determinati a continuare la trattativa con il Rhode Island. C’è molto da fare per rispettare i tempi che abbiamo fissato. Il Golden Gate Yacht Club ha annunciato agli altri team che la sede della Coppa sarà annunciata entro il 31 dicembre 2010.
Da parte nostra abbiamo l’esigenza di capire come i team, i visitatori e gli ospiti saranno alloggiati e come sarà possibile recuperare le necessarie sponsorizzazioni. Sarebbe di grande aiuto se potessi avvisarci circa i tempi necessari per preparare le infrastrutture necessarie a Fort Adams per soddisfare le esigenze discusse con il vostro gruppo di lavoro nel corso dei meeting.
A dimostrazione del nostro reale interesse nei confronti del Rhde Island ho chiesto a Tom Ehman, membro del Golden Gate Yacht Club e dell’America’s Cup Committee, oltre che capo degli affari esterni di BMW Oracle Racing, di presenziare il prossimo lunedì (ndr, ieri) alla riunione del Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation.
Resto in attesa di riprendere il dialogo nei prossimi giorni.

Dear Keith,
I would like to thank you for meeting with our team over the past week and, in particular, arranging the meetings yesterday with Governor-elect Chafee and Senate President Paiva-Weed.
Over the past week, you have clearly presented why Rhode Island, and Fort Adams State Park, in particular, has the capability to host the 34th America’s Cup, an event that is one of the largest sporting events in the world in terms of economic benefit and mass media audience. In particular, we are impressed with Fort Adams and the possibility of its being the center of public access, use and enjoyment of Narragansett Bay.
We are very serious in our intent to move forward with Rhode Island. There is much to do to meet the timeframes we have set. The Golden Gate Yacht Club has committed to other America’s Cup teams that a host city will be announced by December 31, 2010.
On our side we must establish the how the teams, visitors and VIPs will be accommodated and how we will raise the necessary corporate sponsorship. You can greatly assist us by advising on the readiness of Fort Adams to complete the necessary public infrastructure improvements to base the teams and hold the event within the timeframes we have discussed with you and your team.
To demonstrate our interest in working with Rhode Island, I have asked Tom Ehman, a fellow member of the Golden Gate Yacht Club Board and America’s Cup Committee, and head of External Affairs for BMW Oracle Racing, to attend next Monday’s Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation’s December board meeting to convey our interest to your Board and the Governor.
