Audi MedCup, la Practice s’inchina al maltempo

[singlepic id=6192 w=300 h=200 float=left]Audi MedCup – Marsiglia – Pessime condizioni meteo oggi, sul campo di regata di Marsiglia, con forti piogge e venti leggeri e instabili, che hanno causato l’annullamento della practice race ufficiale del Trofeo di Marsiglia, seconda tappa del Circuito Audi MedCup 2010. Per i dieci TP52, c’è stata dunque soltanto l’occasione per fare le due partenze di prova (la seconda effettuata nonostante il comitato di regata avesse già issato l’intelligenza), con tutti i team intenti a cercare di leggere i numerosi salti di vento del campo. Salti che hanno poi costretto la giuria ad annullare la sessione, rimandando anticipatamente tutti i team in porto.
Fra gli ospiti dela giornata, spicca la presenza delle modelle tedesche Sandy Meyer-Woldron and Lisa Loch a bordo di Audi A1 Powered by All4One.
Domani, vento permettendo, la TP52 Series inizierà le prove valide per la classifica, con tre regate in programma. I cinque team della GP42 Series si affronteranno invece nella propria practice race ufficiale.

Lorenzo Bressani , timoniere di Luna Rossa: “Non è stata certo una buona giornata, con pessime condizioni meteo. Troppa pioggia e troppi salti di vento: è stato impossibile fare qualcosa. Per quanto riguarda domani, cercheremo di fare meglio che a Cascais. Per me è un appuntamento molto importante, ho già timonato in questa classe nel 2005 e nel 2006, ma ora ci sono team davvero ottimi. Prada è un nome importante nella vela mondiale, per cui per me è una grande chance”.
Dean Barker, timoniere di Emirates Team New Zealand:
“È stato un peccato non essere riusciti a disputare la practice di oggi, ma le condizioni era davvero difficili per tutti, con vento a volte molto forte e a volte praticamente inesistente. Marsiglia la conosciamo bene, è la terza volta che regatiamo qui, dopo l’evento del 2008 e quello, vinto, del 2009. È un campo di regata davvero bello e difficile, in cui è sempre un piacere regatare. E poi quello di Marsiglia è sempre un grande evento, un ottimo spettacolo per tutto il Circuito Audi MedCup”.
Nacho Postigo, direttore tecnico del Circuito Audi MedCup: “Il vento cambiava moltissimo, in termini di direzione e intensità, per cui siamo riusciti a dare il via a una sola partenza, annullando l’altra a pochi secondi dal via. Domani il tempo dovrebbe migliorare, per cui cercheremo di dare il via a 2-3 prove”.
AUDI MEDCUP, THE REAL BATTLE START TOMORROW
[Audi MedCup Press Release] The official practice race for the TP52 Series at the Marseille Trophy had to be cancelled today, falling foul of the stormy, wet conditions and the unsettled breezes. The forecast for tomorrow is more promising, when three races for the TP52 are planned with the first starts due at 13.30 while the five GP42’s are scheduled for their Practice Race.
The rain was teeming down before dawn and that set the tone for the day. But the 10 TP52 teams, keen to get in whatever practice might be available. After being held ashore the fleet went afloat on the rade Sude and ran through two practice starts, but both saw big wind shifts and changes in pressure. One windward leg was sailed.
Nevertheless the crews spent the best part of four hours on the water, and some of that time was productively spent testing sails and tuning up preparing for the start of racing tomorrow (Wednesday).
Sandy Meyer-Woldron and Lisa Loch, both well known German models sailed on Audi A1 Powered by All4One.
Three races for the TP52 are planned with the first starts due at 13:30hrs while the five GP42’s are scheduled for their Practice Race.
The forecast for tomorrow is more promising with the SE’ly wind expected to be better established.
All the races from the Marseille Trophy will be broadcast live on line, starting at 1250hrs on www.medcup.org.
