Audi MedCup 2009 – Marsiglia – Splendida regata per Terry Hutchinson e il suo team, che vanno a vincere la regata costiera del Trofeo Città di Marsiglia, seconda prova dell’Audi MedCup 2009, con 36 secondi di vantaggio su Valars, con il nostro Gabriele Benussi alla tattica.
Quantum Racing si porta così in seconda posizione in classifica generale. Terzo posto per Emirates Team New Zealand, che sfrutta un problema di Vasco Vascotto con il fiocco e negli ultimi 500 metri lo supera salendo sul gradino più basso del podio. Soltanto nono Artemis con Russel Coutts alla tattica. Ultimo Matador, che dopo il bastone iniziale rompe il fiocco, facendo tutto il primo lungo bordo di bolina con la tormentina. Sesto posto finale per Pisco Sour di Vasco Vascotto, ottava posizione per Audi TP52 Powered by Q8.
Nei GP42, una vittoria a testa per Islas Canarias Puerto Calero, Roma 2 con Paolo Cian al timone e Caser Endesa. Italiani sempre in testa alla classifica generale con 10 punti, davanti a Islas Canarias, con 16 punti, e a Caser Endesa (18).

QUANTUM RACING WINS COASTAL RACE, EMIRATES TEAM NEW ZEALAND EXTEND THE LEAD
[Audi MedCup Press Release] Precison tactics and smart boat handling in NWly winds to 22 knots won the 30 miles coastal race today off Marseille for 2008 Audi MedCup Champions Quantum Racing.
After a solid opening stage on the windward leeward in the bay off the historic City, the overall title holders were able to climb into the lead on the long beat back upwind from the easternmost turn off Cassis.
The constant balancing act on the beat was to use the starboard tack lift and additional wind pressure under the high cliffs without getting too close and losing the breeze. After an audacious gain, working inshore on the downwind leg to seize the lead, Vasco Vascotto’s Pisco Sour crew went too far on this long windward leg and lost the lead to Quantum Racing.
That downwind move, to the left at the Riou island was what catapulted Valars to second at the leeward turn. They had to fight back at times but finished second, while Emirates Team New Zealand, regatta and Circuit leaders, earned third when they overhauled Pisco Sour during the last mile. They set a Code Zero and as Pisco Sour’s team tried to do the same their furler snarled and they dropped Bribon as well to finish sixth.
