AUDI MEDCUP, EMIRATES TEAM NEW ZEALAND BACK ON TOP
[Audi MedCup Press Release] Winning the second race of the day with Artemis in fourth sees Emirates Team New Zealand lead overall at the Portugal Trophy.

Racing in the brisk NW’ly cross offshore breeze, Emirates Team New Zealand (NZL) lead from the first windward mark. They started well and were able to gain from their position on the early left of the course before crossing the fleet to protect the inshore line. This time they went with the right downwind and were able to extend on the first leg.

Synergy got the better of Quantum Racing (USA) on the second beat to hang on to second place. Starting early proved very costly for the Portuguese entry Bigamist (POR) who took time to extricate themselves from a tight line up of boats. By the windward mark they had 300 metres to make up, lying tenth. A good final run gained them two places but they drop from second to fourth overall.

Emirates Team New Zealand (NZL) lead on countback going in to tomorrow’s coastal race, sharing the 15 points aggregate with Artemis (SWE), Quantum Racing’s 8,3 for the day leaves them in third.

In the GP42 Islas Canarias Puerto Calero (ESP) takes the lead with two wins and one third place (5 points). Roma, helmed by Paolo Cian, is second with 6 points. To complete the podium is Caser Endesa, with two thirds and one win.
