Audi MedCup, è arrivato il Mistral

Audi MedCup – Marsiglia – Dopo giorni di attesa, il mistral è finalmente arrivato nelle acque davanti a Marsiglia, e si attendono oggi quasi 30 nodi d’aria. Situazioni non semplici dunque per i regatanti e per il comitato di regata, che cercherà comunque di dare il via a tre prove per entrambe le Series.

Nella TP52 Series, tanta attesa per la sfida fra Quantum Racing e Matador, con gli americani avanti in classifica di soli 4.5 punti. La coppia Vascotto-Bruni dovrà dunque dare il meglio di sé per colmare il gap e portarsi in testa. Pericoli per la leadership del team di Terry Hutchinson potrebbero però arrivare anche da Audi A1 Powered by All4One, staccato di 7 punti in terza posizione. Più difficile la situazione per Emirates Team New Zealand e Team Origin, lontani 8.5 lunghezze dalla vetta. Ma quando si parla dei Kiwi, nulla è da dare per scontato.

Nella GP42 Series, Paolo Cian su Madrid-Caser Seguros tenterà invece di completare la rimonta iniziata con le due vittorie di ieri, cercando di recuperare i due punti che lo dividono da Iberdrola, leader del Trofeo. È di 5 punti, invece, lo svantaggio di Airisessential, che dovrà dare davvero il meglio di sé in ogni ruolo per provare a rientrare in partita.

AUDI MEDCUP, WELCOME TO THE MARSEILLE TROPHY MR MISTRAL
[Audi MedCup Press Release] Welcome to the Marseille Trophy Mr Mistral! The arrival of the famous Mistral sees the frantically flapping flags around the Audi MedCup village adding to the bustle as the TP52 and GP42 Series fleets prepare for their penultimate scheduled day of racing.

Quantum Racing levered themselves clear of the chasing pack yesterday with a well executed win in the Coastal Race, leaving them with a 4.5 points lead. With the forecast this morning promising winds to 26 knots during the early part of the racing programme, dropping away only a little later in the afternoon, the shore-crews and sailing teams were at their boats early to do all they can to make sure that equipment is at 100%. Many teams yesterday had breakdowns of some description, even Quantum Racing admitted to some small issues which they dealt with quietly and efficiently.

On Team Origin Kelvin Harrap steps into the shoes of Ben Ainslie to steer Team Origin today. The four times Olympic medallist is on duty at the JP Morgan Round the Island Race where he is committed to representing his personal sponsors who also back the huge race around the Isle of Wight. Deputising for one of the world’s best starters won’t be easy.

Three race are planned for today on the rade sud to ensure that the complement of races sailed is maximised, in the event that Mr Mistral plays it extra mean on Sunday. Big winds, big waves are expected.

The GP42 series fleet will be four boats strong following yesterday’s damage to the masthead crane on Peninsula Petroleum.
