America’s Cup, Tom Ehman:”E’ un giorno triste per la Coppa America”

[singlepic id=3586 w=204 h=300 float=left]America’s Cup – San Francisco – A poche ore dalla pubblicazione della sentenza del giudice Kornreich, Tom Ehman, portavoce del Golden Gate Yacht Club, ha commentato quanto deliberato dalla corte:

“Siamo molto soddisfatti perchè la decisione odierna fa chiarezza in merito alle regole che definiranno il design delle barche della 33ma America’s Cup. E’ ora cristallino che le regole comprese tra la 49 e la 54 non si applicheranno.

Comunque, senza tali norme, la Société Nautique de Genève interrompe una storia lunghissima e una tradizione nel mondo dello yachting che ha sempre proibito l’uso di forza non generata dall’uomo. Per la prima volta nella storia della Coppa, i motori potranno essere utilizzati per regolare le vele, e i computer potranno essere usati per controllare e governare le barche. Questo, secondo noi, è un giorno triste per la Coppa America.

Mentre siamo soddisfatti per la certezza in merito alle regole relative al design, siamo dispiaciuti che la Corte abbia riconosciuto alla Société Nautique de Genève il diritto di cambiare le regole in ogni momento sino all’inizio dei match. Non crediamo che questa decisione sia nello spirito del Deed of Gift, né rappresenti quanto inteso da chi donò la Coppa e stiamo attualmente valutando le nostre opzioni in merito.

Siamo soddisfatti che il giudice Kornreich abbia ordinato alla Société Nautique de Genève di consegnare l’accordo segreto sottoscritto tra la Société Nautique de Genève stessa e l’ISAF.

Guardiamo con fiducia all’udienza del 10 agosto prossimo per sgombrare dal campo ogni dubbio relativo alla questione del Custom House Registry. Siamo sicuri di poter dimostrare alla Corte quando ‘sarà possibile per il Golden Gate Yacht Club presentare tale documento'”.

[Golden Gate Yacht Club Press Release] Few hours after the issue of the justice Kornreich rules, Tom Ehman, Golden Gate Yacht Club spokeperson, issued the following statement:

“We are very pleased that today’s Court decision gives us clarity regarding the design rules that will govern AC33. It is now crystal clear that racing rules 49 through 54 will not apply.

However, without racing rules 49-54, Société Nautique de Genève is breaking with the longstanding history and tradition in yacht racing that prohibited the use of non-manual power. For the first time in the Cup’s history, engines will be permitted to trim the sails, and computers can be used to control and steer the yachts. This, we believe, is a sad day for the America’s Cup.

While we are pleased with the design-rule certainty, we are disappointed that the Court has said that Société Nautique de Genève can change the other racing rules at any time up to the start of the Match. We do not believe this is what the Deed says, nor what the donors intended, and are currently reviewing our options in this regard.

We are pleased that Justice Kornreich has ordered ociété Nautique de Genève to provide us the secret agreement Société Nautique de Genève entered into with ISAF.

We look forward to the hearing on August 10th to clear the air on the CHR matter. We are confident we can demonstrate to the Court when it “would be practicable for [GGYC] to provide a CHR.”
