America’s Cup, si è concluso il meeting di Valencia

America’s Cup – Valencia – Diciotto dei diciannove rappresentanti dei team iscritti alla 33a America’s Cup, si sono incontrati a Valencia negli ultimi due giorni per affrontare le tematiche legate all’organizzazione dell’evento.

Dopo aver valutato le diverse opzioni Alinghi, defender dell’America’s Cup, il Club Nàutico Español de Vela (CNEV), Challenger dei Record e gli altri sfidanti hanno deciso di comune accordo che sia la regate di selezione degli sfidanti, che la 33a America’s Cup si disputeranno nel 2010 con la nuova classe di barche ancora in fase di studio e la cui formula sarà resa pubblica il 31 gennaio.

I team hanno concordato che le pre-regate fissate per il 2009, saranno obbligatorie per tutti gli iscritti a prescindere dalla prossima decisione della corte di New York.

Il defender ha informato i challenger che le trattative con le autorità spagnole per confermare Valencia come città ospitante sono a buon punto e progrediranno ancora nella prossima riunione con il governo centrale di Madrid.

Grant Simmer, coordinatore del team di design di Alinghi ha commentato: “Tutti i team concordano nell’affermare che stiamo facendo un ottimo lavoro nel definire le date e il regolamento della sfida multi-challenger per la 33a America’s Cup. Stiamo cercando di approvare il maggior numero di dettagli possibili sia per l’evento del 2010 che per le pre-regate del 2009 in modo da guadagnare tempo. In questo modo se la posizione attuale del CNEV venisse confermata dalla Corte d’Appello, saremo già pronti e potremo procedere rapidamente”.

Sull’evento pesa ancora l’incertezza dovuta alla causa legale in corso a New York indetta dal Golden Gate Yacht Club e da BMW Oracle Racing, tuttavia i team iscritti hanno dimostrato ancora una volta la loro ferma volontà di proseguire nell’organizzazione della 33° America’s Cup.

Il prossimo meeting tra gli iscritti dell’America’s Cup si terrà a marzo a Valencia.

[singlepic=1402,250,170,,left][Alinghi Press Release] After considering various options, talks over the past two days between Alinghi, the Defender of the America’s Cup, Club Náutico Español de Vela (CNEV), the Challenger of Record, and the rest of the challengers have resulted in a firm commitment for the Challenger Selection Series and the 33rd America’s Cup Match to take place in 2010 in the new class of boat currently under development by the group and due to be made public on 31 January.

The group also decided that the two pre-regattas scheduled for 2009 are to be compulsory for all entered teams, regardless of the expected court decision in New York.

The Defender informed the group that negotiations with the Spanish authorities to confirm Valencia as Host City are well advanced and should progress further at an upcoming meeting with the Central Government in Madrid.

Grant Simmer, Alinghi design team coordinator, commented: “The general comment among the teams is that we are progressing well in the working process towards defining the terms and rules for a multi-challenger 33rd America’s Cup. We all think that we should agree as many details as we can on the event in 2010 and on the pre-regattas for 2009 and try to reduce the number of uncertainties. If the existing court decision which ruled CNEV valid is confirmed by the Court of Appeals, the plans are in place and we can quickly move forward.“

The event is still cloaked in the uncertainty caused by the Golden Gate Yacht Club’ and BMW Oracle Racing’s ongoing litigation in New York, but the entered teams have once again demonstrated their will to continue with ongoing preparations.

The next round of 33rd America’s Cup Competitor Meetings will take place in Valencia in March.
