America’s Cup – San Francisco – Secondo una news pubblicata sul San Francisco Examiner poco dopo la mezzanotte italiana, San Francisco sarebbe stata scelta come sede della 34ma America’s Cup. L’Examiner pubblica la seguente lettera del Commodoro del Golden Gate Yacht Club, Marcus Young:
“31 dicembre 2010
San Francisco scelta come sede della 34ma America’s Cup
E’ ufficiale: San Francisco sarà la città ospitante della 34ma America’s Cup.
Dopo una lunga ed articolata trattativa, il nostro team e la città di San Francisco hanno raggiunto un accordo su di un programma che dovrebbe rendere la 34ma America’s Cup la più spettacolare di sempre.
Le date dell’evento sono al momento fissate sommariamente. Nell’estate del 2013 ci saranno le regate di selezione, mentre all’inizio di autunno si svolgerà il match valido per la difesa della Coppa America. Il nostro direttivo ci tiene a ringraziare quanti hanno dato il loro apporto e atteso con pazienza l’esito del nostro lavoro relativo al processo si selezione della venue.
Come è facile immaginare non si è trattato di un accordo semplice, anzi si può dire che sia stato il più complesso nella storia della Coppa.
Detto questo, noi, il Golden Gate Yacht Club, abbiamo molto da fare nel corso delle prossime settimane e dei prossimi mesi per gettare le basi di questa attesissima America’s Cup.

[AGGIORNAMENTO, 2.20] Anche i soci del Golden Gate Yacht Club sono stati informati della scelta di BMW Oracle Racing: San Francisco sarà la sede della 34ma America’s Cup. Ottimo successo politico del sindaco di Frisco che, proprio sul finire del mandato, ha assicurato l’evento alla sua città per una cifra decisamente inferiore a quella richiesta inizialmente dal team di Larry Ellison.

AMERICA’S CUP, SAN FRANCISCO SELECTED AS VENUE FOR THE 34TH EDITION?
America’s Cup – San Francisco – After months of rumors, speculation and chest-beating by America’s Cup fans, politicians and officials on both coasts, San Francisco has been chosen as the official venue for the 34th America’s Cup match race finals series. The San Francisco Examiner published the following letter, signed by Golden Gate Yacht Club’s Commodore, Marcus Young.

SF Wins Bid for AC 34
It’s official. San Francisco will be the host City for the 34 edition of the America’s Cup.
After a very detailed and exhaustive negotiation, our venue team and the City of San Francisco have come to terms with a program that should make this 34th edition of the Cup the most spectacular to date.
Dates for the event are tentatively set for summer of 2013 for the Challenger/Defender series and early fall for the America’s Cup Defense series. The Board of Directors and our negotiating team would like to thank all of our members for their long standing support and patience as we carefully worked out the details of this host city agreement.
As one can imagine, this was not a simple affair and has been called the most complex agreement in the Cups long history.
That said, we, the Golden Gate Yacht Club, have much to do and look forward to in the coming weeks and months in the dial-up to the most anticipated AC event.
