America’s Cup, presentazione ufficiale per l’AC45

America’s Cup – Auckland – Completata la prima serie di test ufficiali, svoltisi ad Auckland nel corso delle settimane passate, l’America’s Cup Race Management ha presentato ufficialmente l’AC45 e ha dichiarato aperto il periodo di prova riservato ai potenziali challenger. Sarà proprio l’organizzazione guidata da Iain Murray a prendersi cura della manutenzione e della sistemazione logistica del prototipo, atteso da un lungo periodo di lavoro.
Ad aprire la giornata, che ha visto appassionati, curiosi e addetti ai lavori confluire dalle parti del Viaduct Basin per celebrare l’ultimo frutto dell’industria kiwi, è stata una tradizionale cerimonia maori.
“Seguire le fasi dello sviluppo dell’AC45 è stata un’esperienza unica. Lo sviluppo del prototipo è la chiara dimostrazione delle capacità dei tecnici neozelandesi e della qualità della loro industria nautica – ha commentato Iain Murray – Voglio ringraziare la Core Builders Composites che ha realizzato una barca veloce e robusta. So che per loro questo rappresenta solo il primo di una serie di scafi che già il prossimo aprile andranno a comporre la flotta che, lasciata Auckland, darà vita all’America’s Cup World Series”.
Ricordiamo che l’AC45 è un catamarano ad ala rigida che servirà come classe di transizione in attesa del varo dei primi AC72, previsto per il 2012.

[America’s Cup Press Release] Boat One Officially Commissioned Upon Its Hand-Over to America’s Cup Race Management.
With its technical shakedown now complete, it is handover day for the new AC45 wing-sailed catamaran, marking the beginning of the next era of the America’s Cup. America’s Cup Race Management will now manage the logistics, care and maintenance of the prototype as competitors test the boat over the coming weeks. The AC45 is the forerunner to the larger AC72, which will be used in the 34thAmerica’s Cup.
A traditional Maori blessing will start the day as competitors, prospective competitors and New Zealand dignitaries converge to see the latest in America’s Cup technology and celebrate the tireless effort of the New Zealand marine industry to make this occasion possible.
“To see the AC45 come together from just a concept in September to a full-fledged racing machine by January is a true testament to the skill of the New Zealand marine industry,” said Iain Murray, America’s Cup Race Management CEO and Regatta Director. “In particular we would like to thank the team at Core Builders Composites who have produced an incredible boat that is fast yet robust. They remain hard at work on the balance of the AC45 fleet, which will be delivered to the teams for testing through April, before we leave Auckland to compete in the 2011 America’s Cup World Series.”
