America’s Cup, il primo volo di Alinghi 5

America’s Cup – Villeneuve – Alinghi, il Defender della 33a America’s Cup, ha varato oggi il suo nuovo catamarano di 90 piedi sul Lago di Ginevra, in Svizzera con l’elicottero.
Alle ore 16.00 di questo pomeriggio, Alinghi 5, il nuovo catamarano del Defender Svizzero dell’America’s Cup è stato prelevato dal capannone dove era stato costruito a Villeneuve in Svizzera, e trasportato fino al lago da un elicottero Mil Mi -26 russo, il più grande e potente elicottero esistente al mondo.
Alinghi 5 rappresenta il primo passo nello sviluppo verso la 33° America’s Cup e il team è concentrato ora a preparare la barca per navigare al più presto nel corso delle prossime settimane.
Ernesto Bertarelli, Presidente di Alinghi, che era presente all’evento sia per congratularsi con il team e sia per il battesimo della barca che ha visto sua moglie Kirsty indossare i panni della madrina, ha così commentato: “Sono un velista appassionato di multiscafi e sono veramente emozionato sia per il varo di Alinghi 5 sia per il fatto che questo rappresenta un passo avanti importante verso l’inizio della campagna: nelle prossime settimane e nei prossimi mesi il team dovrà sviluppare la barca per difendere la 33a America’s Cup del prossimo anno. Il team ha fatto un ottimo lavoro affinché tutto ciò diventasse realtà, ora non vediamo l’ora di cominciare a navigare”.
Guardando l’elicottero che sollevava Alinghi 5, Grant Simmer, il coordinatore dell’intero progetto che ha lavorato a fianco del team dei progettisti, dei costruttori e dei velisti ha dichiarato: “Sono molto orgoglioso del risultato raggiunto, le persone coinvolte in questo progetto sono tante e si sono impegnate fino al limite. Tutti hanno fatto un lavoro eccezionale e questo è il risultato”.
AMERICA’S CUP, ALINGHI 5 IS ON THE WATER
[Source Alinghi] Alinghi, the Defender of the 33rd America’s Cup, launched its new 90ft catamaran today on Lake Geneva, Switzerland, by helicopter.
At 16.00 this afternoon, Alinghi 5, the Swiss America’s Cup Defender’s new catamaran, was lifted out of the tent where it was built in Villeneuve, Switzerland, and into the air by a Mil Mi-26 helicopter, the biggest and most powerful in the world, to be launched on Lake Geneva.
Alinghi 5 represents a first step in the development process towards the 33rd America’s Cup and the team will now focus on preparing it to sail over the coming weeks.
Ernesto Bertarelli, Alinghi team president, who was present to congratulate the team and for the boat christening by his wife Kirsty, commented: “As a passionate multihull sailor I am extremely excited to see Alinghi 5 launched and for the next stage of this campaign to begin: over the coming weeks and months the team will work towards defending the 33rd America’s Cup next year. The team has done an excellent job to make this happen; we are all looking forward to going sailing now.”
Watching as the helicopter lifted Alinghi 5 out of the tent and on to the water, Grant Simmer who, working alongside a team of designers, boat builders and sailors, has coordinated the project said: “I feel very proud of what we have achieved; there have been so many people involved who have worked really hard. They have done a fantastic job and this is the product of their hard work”.
