America’s Cup, Alinghi 5: “Un contributo al lavoro di tutto il team”

America’s Cup – Le Bouveret – Alinghi, il Defender della 33a America’s Cup, ha organizzato oggi una conferenza stampa a Le Bouveret, in Svizzera per presentare Alinghi 5, il suo maxi catamarano.
La barca non è andata in acqua oggi a causa delle previsioni meteo contrarie, ma le prime uscite all’inizio di questa settimana sono state molto ricche di soddisfazioni: “Il primo giorno di navigazione di Alinghi 5 sul lago e le sue eccezionali prestazioni sono un tributo a tutta la squadra: prima di tutto ai progettisti – che hanno lavorato utilizzando la tecnologia e l’esperienza Svizzera in materia di multiscafi, insieme tutte le loro conoscenze tecniche – ma anche a coloro i quali hanno costruito la barca e ai velisti, che sono ora completamente concentrati nel rendere la barca il più veloce possibile. Il nostro primo giorno in acqua, volando su di uno scafo, è stato certamente uno dei più belli della mia vita” ha dichiarato Ernesto Bertarelli, presidente del team.
La navigazione e i test continueranno nei prossimi giorni fino alla celebrazione pubblica del 1° Agosto (festa nazionale svizzera) sul lago di Ginevra. L’evento prevede la presentazione del team prima della parata a vela da Losanna fino allo yacht club Defender, la Société Nautique de Genève. Nei giorni seguenti la barca sarà preparata per il trasferimento a Genova, in Italia, dove continuerà il periodo di allenamento.
“Questo progetto è sempre stato e continua ad essere mirato a lavorare con persone che sono socialmente e intellettualmente pronte a sfide ed esperienze uniche nel loro genere. Non è fatto per chi vuole vincere nelle aule di giustizia. L’obiettivo è quello di realizzare la barca più veloce in acqua con il miglior team e con la migliore tecnologia possibile. Per questo motivo eravamo e siamo orgogliosi di quello che facciamo” ha concluso Bertarelli.
A fianco di Ernesto Bertarelli, nel corso della conferenza stampa, sedevano Grant Simmer, coordinatore dei progettisti del team,; Murray Jones, uno dei velisti del team responsabile di questa fase dei test in acqua e Patrick Aebischer, presidente di EPFL, consulente scientifico di Alinghi.

AMERICA’S CUP, ALINGHI 5: “A TRIBUTE TO THE TEAM”
[Alinghi Press Release] Alinghi, the Defender of the 33rd America’s Cup, held a press conference today in Le Bouveret, Switzerland, to present Alinghi 5, the Swiss team’s giant catamaran.
The boat was held ashore for the day as the weather turned foul on Lake Geneva, but the first trials held earlier this week were extremely successful: “Being able to sail Alinghi 5 on the Lake for the very first time and seeing it perform so well on its first day out is a real tribute to the team; first and foremost the designers – who have drawn from the multihull heritage and technology here in Switzerland as well as their own depth – but also the boat builders and the sailors who are now completely focused on making the boat go as fast as possible. Our first day out, flying a hull was, if not the best, certainly one of the best days of my life,” said team president, Ernesto Bertarelli.
Sailing and testing will continue apace over the coming days culminating in a public celebration on Lake Geneva on 1 August which will include a team presentation before a parade of sail from Lausanne to the defender’s club, Société Nautique de Genève. The boat will then be prepared for the heli-lift to Genoa, Italy, where training will continue.
“This project has been, and continues to be, about putting people in a position where they can socially and intellectually experience things that are unique. It’s not about who is winning in court; it’s about which is going to be the fastest boat on the water with the strongest team and the best technology. That is why we are here and we are proud of it,” concluded Bertarelli.
Ernesto Bertarelli was flanked by Grant Simmer, design team coordinator; Murray Jones, member of the sailing team who has been running the early trials and Patrick Aebischer, president of EPFL, Alinghi‘s scientific advisor.
