America’s Cup, Alinghi 5 naviga a Valencia per la prima volta

America’s Cup – Valencia – Alinghi ha colto l’occasione del varo e della prima uscita nelle acque di Valencia del suo maxi catamarano, Alinghi 5, per dare il benvenuto presso la propria base alle autorità locali. Ernesto Bertarelli, presidente di Alinghi, ha salutato Francisco Camps, presidente della regione, e Rita Barberà, sindaco di Valencia, che gli ha consegnato la bandiera della città, immediatamente issata a bordo di Alinghi 5.
“Siamo pronti per il match – ha dichiarato Bertarelli ai giornalisti presenti – Il team è qui, io sono qui e siamo pronti per l’America’s Cup dell’8 febbraio. Tutti i diversi aspetti organizzativi per far partire l’evento sono al loro posto: abbiamo un accordo con il comune di Valencia per quanto riguarda l’organizzazione a terra della 33ma America’s Cup, e siamo solo in attesa del benestare del Governo centrale di Madrid”.
Non appena le grandi vele sono state caricate sul catamarano con una gru, l’argomento si è spostato verso l’ultima causa intentata da BMW Oracle Racing (la nona). Ernesto Bertarelli è stato deciso nelle sue affermazioni: “Le nostre vele sono il prodotto di una tecnologia Svizzera e sono state costruite a Villeneuve, in Svizzera. La tecnologia svizzera è stata utilizzata sia dai defender che da challenger nell’America’s Cup a partire dal 1995 e abbiamo impiegato anni di sviluppo in Svizzera per realizzarle. Se il sistema giudiziario americano dovesse proibire il loro uso, sarebbe come chiedere a Roger Federer di difendere il suo primato senza utilizzare la racchetta da tennis. BMW Oracle Racing vuole vincere l’America’s Cup nelle aule di giustizia dal momento che senza vele noi non possiamo regatare”.
Subito dopo il varo Ernesto è salito a bordo del catamarano, mentre gli ospiti hanno preso posto sulle imbarcazioni al seguito per seguire i primi test in vista dell’inizio del programma di allenamento che comincerà domani.

AMERICA’S CUP, ALINGHI 5 SAILS IN VALENCIA FOR THE FIRST TIME
[Alinghi Press Release] Alinghi welcomed the Valencia authorities to its base in the Dársena this afternoon to watch the Defender’s giant catamaran, Alinghi 5, be launched ahead of its first sail in Spanish waters. Ernesto Bertarelli, Alinghi team president, greeted Francisco Camps, the president of the region, and Rita Barberá, the Valencia mayoress, who presented him with the Valencia flag which was immediately raised on board Alinghi 5.
“We are ready for the Match!” declared Bertarelli to the media present. “The team is here, I am here and we are prepared for the America’s Cup Match on the 8 February,” he said. “All the pieces are in place for the event to begin, we have an agreement with the City of Valencia to run the shore based side of the 33rd America’s Cup, and we are just waiting for the blessing of the central government in Madrid.”
As the vast sails were lifted on to the catamaran with a crane, the latest lawsuit – BMW Oracle Racing‘s ninth – was discussed; Ernesto Bertarelli was firm on the subject: “Our sails are rooted in Swiss technology and they have been constructed in Villeneuve, Switzerland. This Swiss technology has been used by both defenders and challengers in the America’s Cup since 1995 and we have been through years of development in Switzerland to construct them. Should the American justice system outlaw their use, it would be like asking Roger Federer to defend his title without using his tennis racket. BMW Oracle Racing would win the America’s Cup in court as, without our sails, we cannot race.”
As Alinghi 5 cast off, Ernesto hopped on board the catamaran and the guests boarded the support boats to watch Alinghi 5 go for a shake down sail ahead of the race training programme that begins tomorrow.
