America’s Cup, Alinghi 5 è a Valencia (seconda parte)

[singlepic id=4816 w=300 h=204 float=left]America’s Cup – Valencia – Alinghi il team defender della 33ma America’s Cup è arrivato oggi a Valencia in Spagna e, nel corso dei prossimi giorni, si trasferirà nella sua base all’interno della darsena (il porto interno di Valencia) per cominciare la fase finale della preparazione verso le regate dell’America’s Cup che cominceranno l’8 febbraio prossimo.
Alinghi 5, il catamarano del team, gli alberi e i 20 container con tutta l’attrezzatura della barca sono arrivati alla loro destinazione finale a bordo della nave porta conteiner Cassandra B lunedì pomeriggio, dopo un viaggio di 14 giorni cominciato a Ras Al Khaimah negli Emirati Arabi Uniti, la precedente base del team.
“Speriamo che i gli abitanti di Valencia siano contenti di essere testimoni dell’arrivo e della preparazione del nostro catamarano nella darsena. Sappiamo che anche il challenger americano è arrivato a Valencia e nella speranza che tutte e due le imbarcazioni siano ormeggiate nella darsena, sarà possibile assistere a uno spettacolo indimenticabile. Dal momento che queste imbarcazioni sono molto veloci e considerando che le regate si svolgeranno in mare aperto a notevole distanza dalla costa, vedere le barche in acqua sarò complicato per tifosi, spettatori, sponsor e giornalisti. Per questo motivo siamo convinti che la darsena sia l’arena ideale per questo evento” ha dichiarato Grant Simmer, coordinatore dei progettisti di Alinghi.
Il 16 Dicembre scorso il team ha completato due mesi di allenamenti intensi e proficui nel Golfo Arabico ed è ripartito per l’Europa il 21 dicembre. La Cassandra B ha viaggiato per 4.500 miglia dal Golfo Arabico in Mar Rosso, attraversando poi il Canale di Suez e tutto il Mediterraneo per riportare il Defender alla base di Alinghi a Valencia, che era stata la sede del grande successo della 32ma America’s Cup.
Alinghi prevede di cominciare a navigare a Valencia a metà del mese e si concentrerà sull’allenamento per i 36 giorni che rimangono fino all’inizio della 33a America’s Cup.
“Il viaggio da Ras Al Khaimah a Valencia è stato tranquillo. Nei prossimi giorni ci sistemeremo nella nostra base che affaccia sulla darsena. Il team si concentrerà nella preparazione di Alinghi 5 per l’ultima sessione di allenamento in vista della prima regata della 33ma America’s Cup, che comincerà l’8 febbraio” ha concluso Simmer.
AMERICA’S CUP, ALINGHI 5 ARRIVES IN VALENCI FOR THE NEXT AMERICA’S CUP
America’s Cup – Valencia – The 33rd America’s Cup defending team, Alinghi, arrived in Valencia, Spain today and will transfer to its existing base in the dársena (the inner harbour of Valencia) over the next couple of days to begin its final preparations towards the Deed of Gift Match that starts on 8 February.
The team’s catamaran Alinghi 5, the masts and 20 support containers reached their final destination aboard the Cassandra B container ship on Monday afternoon after a 14 day voyage from the team’s previous base in Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates.
“We hope that the people of Valencia will be excited to witness the arrival and preparation of our catamaran. We understand the American challenger has also arrived to Valencia and hopefully both boats will be moored in the dársena and will provide a great spectacle. Since these new yachts are so fast and the racing will take place a long way offshore viewing the yachts from the water will be difficult for the fans, the sponsors and the media; that is why we think the dársena will form an important arena for this event,” said Grant Simmer, Alinghi design team coordinator.
The team completed a very successful two month training period on 16 December 2009 in the Arabian Gulf and cast off, bound for Europe, on the 21 December. The Cassandra B travelled 4,500 nm out of the Arabian Gulf, into the Red Sea, through the Suez Canal and across the Mediterranean to return the Defender to the Alinghi base in Valencia, which was home to the highly successful 32nd America’s Cup.
Alinghi plans to start sailing in Valencia mid-month and will focus on training for the 36 days that remain until the 33rd America’s Cup Match.
“The voyage from Ras Al Khaimah to Valencia went smoothly and over the coming days we will settle back into our base in the dársena. The team will focus on readying Alinghi 5 for the final training session ahead of the first race for the 33rd America’s Cup, which starts on 8 February,” added Simmer.
