Trofeo Desafio Espanol, Murray Jones al timone di Alinghi (SUI-100)

[singlepic=689,250,170,,left]Trofeo Desafio Espanol – Valencia – Il sailing team di Alinghi è uscito in mare per il secondo giorno di allenamento oggi in vista della CNEV annual regatta del prossimo fine settimana. Una volta in banchina, Alinghi.com ha incontrato Murray Jones per una breve chiaccherata. Murray è stato il timoniere del Décision 35 questa estate sul lago di Ginevra e colui che sostituirà Ed Baird questo fine settimana al timone della barca che ha vinto l’ultima edizione dell’America’s Cup.

Puoi raccontarci qualcosa sulla preparazione della barca per questo evento? Quanta polvere è stata tolta e com’è andata?
Era nelle medesime condizioni in cui l’avevamo lasciata dopo la Coppa, i ragazzi hanno impiegato una settimana e mezza per prepararla. Ora è tutto in ordine, ma comunque era immacolata. Tutto ha funzionato alla perfezione sin dal primo giorno di allenamento.

Eri al timone oggi, lo sarai anche in regata durante il fine settimana?
Si sarò il timoniere questo fine settimana e vedremo come va. Ed è occupato con un altro evento e così toccherà a me.

Sai chi saranno gli altri tuoi avversari sulle barche di Coppa?
Credo che Ben Ainslie sarà su Team Origin, immagino che Paul Cayard sarà sulla barca spagnola e penso che Peter Holmberg potrebbe essere su Luna Rossa.

Quindi sarà bello allenarsi e mettere a punto le barche con loro?
Sarà meraviglioso senz’altro. Non vedo l’ora. Anche oggi è stato divertente uscire in mare, la prima volta a bordo di SUI-100 dopo l’ultima regata di Coppa lo scorso anno.

Come sensazione hai provato tornando al monoscafo dai multiscafi?
Strano… davvero strano. Completamente diverso. Ci vuole una mezz’ora di tempo per riprendere la mano. 30 gradi di sbandamento fanno differenza e comportano che tutto sia molto, molto diverso.

Parliamo dell’equipaggio, c’era sempre a bordo l’equipaggio titolare o c’è stato qualche cambiamento?
Siamo praticamente sempre gli stessi. Oggi c’erano un paio di ragazzi che non erano con noi durante la Coppa, ma per le regate avremo l’equipaggio titolare al completo. È divertente riunire la banda ed essere di nuovo insieme.

In attesa del fine settimana quali sono i programmi per domani? Ancora messa a punto e allenamento?
Dovremmo partecipare alla regata di prova giovedì con gli altri.

Quale sarà il formato dell’evento? Regate di flotta, match race? Cosa ne sai?
Da quello che ho capito saranno regate di flotta ma credo ci sia la possibiltità di fare anche una regata di match race nel corso del fine settimana.

A CATCH-UP WITH MURRAY JONES
[Alinghi Press Release] The sailing team took SUI-100 out for a second day of training today ahead of the CNEV annual regatta this weekend. When they docked-in, Alinghi.com snatched a quick chat with Murray Jones who has been at the helm of the Décision 35 this summer on Lake Geneva and who will be standing in for Ed Baird this weekend at the helm of the AC winning boat

Can you tell us about the preparation to get the boat ready, how much dust had to be knocked off the boat? What goes into it?
It was the way we left it after the Cup, the boys have spent a week and a half preparing it, getting everything back together but it was immaculate. Everything was working fine when we went out for our first sail.

I notice you are on the handlebars, are you going to be the racing helmsman for the weekend?
Yes, I am going to be helming this weekend so we’ll see how that goes, Ed is busy at another event, so I’m standing in.

Who do you know who’s competing on the other AC Class boats?
I think Ben Ainslie is sailing on the Team Origin boat. I assume Paul Cayard will be on the Spanish boat and I think Peter Holmberg might be sailing on Luna Rossa.

So it’ll be nice to have a little trial and tune up against them?
It’ll be great – we’re looking forward to it. It was fun to go out sailing today, the first time back on board since the last race we sailed in the Cup.

How did it feel going from the multihulls back onto the monohull?
Weird… really weird. Totally different. It took half an hour or so to get used to it again, it is just a totally different beast. 30 degrees of heel, it was just totally different.

Tell me about the crew onboard, have we got the core team still or any changes?
We are basically the same team again. Today there were a couple of guys that weren’t here but during the regatta we’ll have the core team; it is fun to get the band back together again.

So you’re looking forward to the weekend? What’s the plan for the next day or two leading up to it? Any more tuning, training?
I think we have a practice race with the other boats on Thursday.

What can you tell me about the format? Fleet racing, match racing? What do you know?
I understand it is fleet racing but I think there is the possibility of doing some match racing over the weekend.
