[singlepic=1527,250,170,,left]Louis Vuitton Pacific Series – Auckland – L’ambasciatore svizzero in Nuova Zelanda Dr Beat Nobs ha accolto ufficialmente oggi ad Auckland Alinghi, il Defender della 33a America’s Cup nel corso di una serata organizzata per l’occasione.
Nobs era appena ritornato, con l’equipaggio di Alinghi, dal campo di regata dove aveva partecipato come 18° uomo agli allenamenti del team. “È stata un’esperienza unica e indimenticabile. Le poche ore trascorse a bordo di Alinghi mi hanno offerto uno straordinario esempio dei meccanismi di un team che lavora come un unico insieme di grande professionalità; le loro prestazioni sono entusiasmanti! Sono felice di salutare il ritorno di Alinghi ad Auckland per questa regata e formulo il mio più sincero augurio di buon vento al team” ha dichiarato Dr Nobs.
Alinghi ha cominciato ad allenarsi sabato insieme agli altri nove partecipanti alle Louis Vuitton Pacific Series che si svolgeranno nell’area dell’Waitemata Harbour ad Auckland. Questa regata segna il ritorno dei velisti di Alinghi in Nuova Zelanda per la prima volta dalla vittoria dell’America’s Cup nel 2003 e rappresenta una piacevole momento di svago dall’inverno europeo.
Le regate cominceranno il 30 gennaio continueranno fino al 14 febbraio prossimo: al primo e al secondo Round Robin seguiranno le finali degli sfidanti e la finale delle LVPS.
Brad Butterworth, neozelandese, skipper di Alinghi e quattro volte vincitore dell’America’s Cup, commenta così il ritorno a casa: “È bello tornare ed è fantastico regatare qui ad Auckland con le barche di Coppa. La nostra aspettativa è quella di partecipare ad un evento di altissimo livello.” Butterworth ha poi aggiunto: “Nove dei dieci team che regateranno qui sono challenger iscritti alle 33a America’s Cup, con i quali abbiamo lavorato con impegno nella preparazione della prossima edizione. Il gruppo ha praticamente concluso lo studio sulle nuove Regole di Classe che saranno pubblicate alla fine di gennaio. Siamo tutti in attesa del primo Act previsto per il prossimo luglio. È bello uscire finalmente dagli uffici e tornare in acqua!”

SWISS WELCOME FOR ALINGHI’S RETURN TO AUCKLAND
[singlepic=1528,250,170,,left][Alinghi Press Release] Alinghi, the Defender of the 33rd America’s Cup, was welcomed back to Auckland at a reception in the city this evening by the Swiss Ambassador to New Zealand, Dr Beat Nobs.
Nobs had just returned from the race course with the crew where he’d been sailing as 18th man for the afternoon: “It was an awesome and unforgettable personal experience to go sailing with Alinghi today. Just the few hours spent onboard gave me an extraordinary glimpse of how this winning team operates as a seamless and highly professional unit; their performance was inspiring! I am delighted to welcome Alinghi back to Auckland for this regatta and I wish them fair winds,” said Dr Nobs.
The Alinghi team started training on Saturday alongside nine other Louis Vuitton Pacific Series competitors on the Waitemata Harbour in Auckland. This regatta marks their return to New Zealand for the first time since winning the America’s Cup in 2003 and has come as a pleasant distraction from the European winter.
Racing begins in earnest on the 30 January with Round Robin 1 and continues through Round Robin 2, the Challenger Finals and the LVPS Final until 14 February. Four-time America’s Cup winner and Alinghi team skipper, Kiwi, Brad Butterworth comments on coming home: “It is really good to be back and fantastic to be sailing in Auckland again on a Cup boat; we look forward to some great competition.” He added: “Nine of the ten teams racing here are 33rd America’s Cup entered challengers with whom we have been working hard on preparations for the next America’s Cup. The group has almost finished the Class Rule which is due to be published at the end of January and we are all looking forward to the first Act in July. It is good to get out of the office and back on the water!”
