America’s Cup, il Vice Commodoro della SNG scrive ai suoi soci

Dopo la notizia che il presidente di Alinghi, Ernesto Bertarelli, ha invitato Larry Ellison a Ginevra per un incontro teso a pianificare la prossima edizione dell’America’s Cup, il club di San Francisco ha reso noti i contenuti di una lettera inviata dal suo Commodoro al sodalizio svizzero il 7 aprile.

In tarda serata è stata la volta di Fred Mayer, Vice Commodoro della Société Nautique de Genève nonchè presidente dell’America’s Cup Committee, che ha scritto una lettera aperta ai suoi soci, per informali degli ultimi sviluppi in ambito Coppa America. La traduzione è stata curata dalla nostra redazione, ci scusiamo sin d’ora per eventuali errori o omissioni.

“Cari Soci della Société Nautique de Genève,

gli ultimi accadimenti che hanno riguardato il mondo dell’America’s Cup necessitano di qualche spiegazione utile a mettervi al corrente dell’attuale situazione.

Da quasi due anni, la Société Nautique de Genève e Alinghi hanno lavorato insieme con 18 sfidanti e dal confronto tra le parti sono nate due classi Coppa America, l’AC90 e, più recentemente, l’AC33. Inoltre, le regole e i programmi che avrebbero dovuto permettere lo svolgimento di un evento multi challenger nel maggio del 2010 sono stati sviluppati e pubblicati.

Il 2 aprile, la Corte d’Appello dello Stato di New York ha dichiarato invalida la nomina del Club Nautico Espanol de Vela a Challenger of Record e, di conseguenza, ha obbligato la Société Nautique de Genève ad accettare come rappresentante degli sfidanti il Golden Gate Yacht Club, il club di BMW Oracle Racing, sulla base della sfida da loro lanciata,

MESSAGE FROM THE SNG VICE COMMODORE CONCERNING TODAY’S LETTER TO GOLDEN GATE YACHT CLUB
America’s Cup – Geneva – A busy day for Société Nautique de Genève and Golden Gate Yacht Club after the news that the president of Alinghi, Ernesto Bertarelli, invited Larry Ellison to Geneva for a meeting aimed at planning the next edition of the America’s Cup, the Golden Gate Yacht Club unveiled the contents of a letter from its Commodore to Société Nautique de Genève on April 7.

Late evening it was the turn of Fred Mayer, Vice Commodore of the Société Nautique de Genève and President’s of America’s Cup Committee, who wrote an open letter to its members to update them about the recent developments.

“Dear Members of the Société Nautique de Genève,

The latest developments in the 33rd America’s Cup deserve some explanations so that you are all aware of the current situation.

For nearly two years, SNG and Alinghi have worked in conjunction with 18 challengers and those discussions led to the establishment of two new classes of America’s Cup yachts, initially the AC 90 rule and, more recently, the AC 33 rule. In addition, the rules that would have had governed a multi-challenger event as proposed in May 2010, were negotiated and published.

On April 2nd, the New York State Court of Appeals declared that the Club Náutico Español de Vela was not a valid Challenger of Record and, as a result, forced the Société Nautique de Genève to accept the Golden Gate Yacht Club (the club of BMW Oracle Racing) in its place, according to the terms in their notice of Challenge, including a multihull boat 90ft by 90ft.

Following the recent decision of the New York Courts, the rules governing the 33rd America’s Cup, that SNG had developed with the Club Náutico Español de Vela, are no longer valid.

The Société Nautique de Genève is writing Golden Gate Yacht Club today to inform them that it accepts their America’s Cup Challenge and that invites them to meet in order to define the terms that should govern the 33rd America’s Cup.

Ernesto Bertarelli, President of Alinghi, also expressed his willingness to meet the President of BMW Oracle Racing, Larry Ellison, in a face-to-face meeting.
