Alinghi vs Desafio Espanol, in acqua a novembre

Trofeo Desafio Espanol – Valencia – Che qualcosa stesse per accadere lo avevamo scritto nei giorni scorsi e oggi, puntuale, arriva la conferma: la seconda edizione del Trofeo Desafio Espanol, la regata annuale organizzata dal Club Nautico Espanol de Vela, vedrà impegnate anche imbarcazioni e team della trentaduesima America’s Cup.
Allo stato attuale, a confermare la propria partecipazione alla manifestazione che si svolgerà tra l’8 e il 9 novembre a Valencia, sono stati il sindacato spagnolo e Alinghi, che vi prenderà parte a bordo di SUI-100, scafo con il quale ha difeso la Coppa America dall’assalto neozelandese.
“Il nostro desiderio è quello di far partire quanto prima una nuova campagna di Coppa America – ha spiegato Manuel Chirivella, presidente del CNEV – Ci auguriamo che il Trofeo Desafio Espanol possa rappresentare un nuovo inizio, non solo per Desafio Espanol e Alinghi, ma per tutti i team che vorranno prendere parte alle regate che, lo ricordiamo, sono aperte a tutti”.
“Sarà stupendo tornare a a navigare a bordo degli ACC – ha commentato lo skipper di Alinghi, Brad Butterworth – SUI-100 non è più stata utilizzata ma alla base sono già iniziati i lavori per rimetterla in condizione di ben figurare. Il team è pronto per tornare a respirare aria di Coppa, anche se per due soli giorni. Questa del Challenger of record è un’iniziativa davvero interessante, speriamo che altri team decidano di partecipare.

[Club Nautico Espanol de Vela Press Release] The second edition of the Trofeo Desafío Español, the annual regatta organized by Club Náutico Español de Vela, will have yachts and teams from the 32nd America’s Cup. On board two of the ACC V5 used the past edition held in Valencia, Alinghi – the sailing team of the defender, Société Nautique de Geneve – and Desafío Español -the syndicate of the Challenger of Record, Club Náutico Español de Vela – will race the 8th and 9th of November in a series of races. With this competition, the America’s Cup Class yachts will go back to where they belong, the race course, in Valencia.
“Our desire is for the America’s Cup to start as soon as possible back in Valencia – said today the president of the CNEV, Manuel Chirivella – We want Trofeo Desafío Español to be beginning of testing, training and racing, not only for Desafío Español and Alinghi, but also for other America’s Cup teams that are willing to take part in the races, which are open to all”.
Apart from these two teams from the 32nd America’s Cup and all the others who may announce their participation, the second edition of CNEV’s annual regatta will be open to yachts with an RN certificate. In the first edition, held last year, a total of 88 boats from 17 yacht clubs raced in the regatta.

Team skipper, Brad Butterworth, comments: “It will be great to get back on the water on the Cup boats. SUI-100 has been under wraps for over a year now – since we won the 32nd America’s Cup in fact – and we are very fortunate to be set up in Valencia and to be able to take the boat racing in this event; the team is looking forward to getting back to some Cup sailing, even for just two days! This initiative from the Challenger of Record is very welcome and we hope that other teams can come and join the event”.
