Bol d’Or, di Alinghi la 73ma edizione

Ginevra – Si è conclusa con il successo di Alinghi la 73ma edizione del Bol d’Or, la regata in acque interne che vanta il maggior numero di partecipanti al mondo. Anche quest’anno la regola si è confermata e ad accalcarsi sulla linea di partenza sono stati oltre cinquecento equipaggi. La regata, tra le altre cose, era valida ai fini del Vulcain Trophy, il circuito riservato alla classe Decision 35 cui prendono parte, oltre all’ex Defender svizzero, i vari Foncia, Artemis Racing, CER e Okalys-Corum.

Sfruttando il favore delle condizioni meteo, caratterizzate da una fresca brezza da sud-ovest, Ernesto Bertarelli ha guidato il suo Decision 35 verso la boa di metà percorso a tempo di record. Peccato che durante la seconda metà della regata il vento sia calato in intensità e abbia creato non pochi problemi ai tattici, chiamati agli straordinari per evitare alcuni temibili buchi d’aria. Sfumato il primato assoluto, Alinghi si è accontentato di imporsi frantumando il primato di percorrenza per un Decision 35 con il tempo di 6 ore e 25 minuti.

“Abbiamo fatto una bella partenza e molto aggressiva che ci ha consentito di prendere il controllo della flotta sin dai primi minuti – ha spiegato Ernesto Bertarelli – Il giro di boa a le Bouveret è stato particolarmente impegnativo dal momento che avevamo deciso di non dare i terzaroli e di continuare a navigare con tutta la randa  con più di 25 nodi di vento. Oggi abbiamo navigato veramente bene, l’equipaggio ha fatto un gran lavoro durante tutta la regata, siamo sempre stati vicini ai nostri avversari e abbiamo sempre sfruttato al meglio ogni di salto di vento. Non abbiamo fatto grandi errori e questo sicuramente ci ha consentito di avere la meglio sui nostri avversari. Vincere the Bol d’Or nelle acque di casa è davvero fantastico, specialmente sapendo che in questo modo il Bol d’Or rimane in famiglia visto che lo scorso anno lo aveva vinto lei a bordo del suo Decision 35 Ladycat”.

Va comunque sottolineato che la regata di Alinghi non è stata una corsa solitaria. Anzi, Foncia, che solo pochi giorni fa si era imposto nella Rolle-Ginevra-Rolle, ha tenuto caparbiamente testa al team svizzero e ha chiuso al secondo posto davanti al Yliam, risultato utile a difendere la testa della classifica provvisoria del circuito Vulcain Trophy.

Da dimenticare la regata di Artemis Racing che, per ammissione dello stesso Paul Cayard, non è mai entrato in gara e non si è mai espresso al meglio delle proprie potenzialità, e di Veltigroup, seconda forza della graduatoria che si è dovuto accontentare dell’ottavo posto di classe.

Archiviato il Bol d’Or la classe Decision 35 si prepara a godersi la pausa estiva. Le prossime regate del circuito sono in programma a settembre, quando la flotta sarà di scena per la prima volta in Mediterraneo, più esattamente nel sud della Francia.

BOL D’OR, ALINGHI WINS 73RD EDITION
[Alinghi Press Release] Alinghi wins the 73rd Bol d’Or after 6 hours and 25 minutes of tactical racing in strong conditions, setting a new time record for the Decision 35 class.

Ernesto Bertarelli and his team won the Bol d’Or for the 6th time since their last victory back in 2004, crossing the finish line at 16:25 on Saturday, June 18th, followed by Foncia (helmed by Michel Desjoyeaux), Ylliam (helmed by Arnaud Psarofaghis) and Okalys (helmed by Loïck Peyron).

The Alinghi Team demonstrated a very good technical control during the whole race and managed to stay in the lead of the regatta most of the time. The victory of Alinghi in this year’s Bol d’Or is setting a new time record for the D35 class as the previous record was hold since 2004 by Zebra 7 which at that time had won the Bol d’Or in 8h59’19’’.

Alinghi crew was composed of Ernesto Bertarelli (Helm), Pierre-Yves Jorand (Mainsail), Tanguy Cariou (Tactic), Nils Frei (Trimmer), Coraline Jonet and Yves Detrey (Bow).

After only 2h14’ of race Alinghi had covered half of the race course, between Geneva and le Bouveret. The way back towards Geneva was the theater of a constant battle between the four leading teams as they all finished in less than a 10 minutes delta.

Alinghi managed to take the lead of this group at the entrance of the “Petit Lac” and kept this advantage until the finish line.

“We took a great and aggressive start, which helped us to stay in command of the race since the first moments” explained Ernesto Bertarelli. “The rounding of the mark in “le Bouveret” was very hot and tricky, as we decided to keep our main sail up in more than 25 knots of wind”. Adding, “We sailed really smoothly today and the crew did a fantastic job around the race course, being always chased closely by our competitors, but dealing well with every single wind change we had to face. We didn’t make any major mistake and it paid!”.

“Winning the Bol d’Or in our home waters is really fantastic, especially knowing that the Bol d’Or will stay in the family, as my sister Dona won it last year with her Decision 35 Ladycat”.

The Bol d’Or was the last regatta of the season for the D35’s on Lake Geneva.

Next rendez-vous for the class will be in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, South of France (September 1st – 4th) and last Grand Prix of the year will take place in Antibes (September 22nd -25th).
