America’s Cup, no a Ras al Khaimah per la 33ma Coppa America

[singlepic id=3635 w=300 h=204 float=left]America’s Cup – New York – La sentenza di New York è ancora in corso, ma arrivano le prime notizie secondo cui il giudice Shirley Kornreich della Suprema Corte di New York, ha stabilito che Ras al-Khaimah, negli Emirati Arabi, non può ospitare la Coppa America sulla base delle regole contenute nel Deed of Gift, secondo cui, nel periodo compreso tra il primo novembre e il primo maggio, non si può regatare nell’emisfero nord.

Il Giudice ha poi precisato che la decisione presa si è basata solo ed esclusivamente su quest’ultima motivazione e non sulle preoccupazioni dimostrate da parte degli americani di BMW Oracle Racing, che ritenevano Ras al Khaimah un luogo non sicuro a causa della sua vicinanza con l’Iran.

[Source AP COM] A New York judge has ruled that Ras al-Khaimah, United Arab Emirates, cannot host the America’s Cup based on the 19th-century document that governs sailing’s marquee regatta.

The ruling by Justice Shirley Kornreich of the New York State Supreme Court is a blow to two-time defending champion Alinghi of Switzerland. The Swiss picked the Persian Gulf for their February showdown against American challenger BMW Oracle Racing.

Kornreich said her decision was based on the stipulation in the Deed of Gift that the America’s Cup cannot be sailed in the Northern Hemisphere between November 1 and May 1, not on concerns by the Americans that RAK was unsafe due to its proximity to Iran.
